On-Vehicle Inspection [08/2017 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT DRIVER SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT 

    HINT: 

    The seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly is used for both the driver seat and front passenger seat.

    1. w/ Buzzer Regulated by Law
      1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
      2. When the driver seat belt is not fastened, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinks for 6 seconds.

        After 1.8 seconds, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly changes from blinking to illuminated.

      3. Lift up the vehicle using a swing arm type lift.

        Refer to VEHICLE LIFT AND SUPPORT LOCATIONS [08/2013 - ]

      4. Start the engine.
      5. Check the state of the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly under the following conditions:
        1. Step 1:

          When the driver seat belt is not fastened, the shift lever is in any position other than P* and the parking brake is released, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinks.

        2. Step 2:

          When the driver seat belt is not fastened and the vehicle is driven at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinks.

          After 2 minutes, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly changes from blinking to illuminated.

        3. Step 3:

          Starting from step 1 with the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinking, when the shift lever is moved to P, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly changes from blinking to illuminated.*

        4. Step 4:

          Starting from step 1 with the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinking, when the parking brake is applied, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly changes from blinking to illuminated.

        5. Step 5:

          Starting from step 1 with the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinking, when the driver seat belt is fastened, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly turns off.

    2. w/o Buzzer Regulated by Law
      1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
      2. When the driver seat belt is not fastened, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinks.
      3. Lift up the vehicle using a swing arm type lift.

      4. Start the engine.
      5. When the driver seat belt is not fastened and the vehicle is driven at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinks at an interval of 1.2 seconds for 30 seconds.

        After that, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinks at an interval of 0.4 seconds.

      6. When the driver seat belt is fastened, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly turns off.
  2. INSPECT FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT 

    HINT: 

    The seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly is used for both the driver seat and front passenger seat.

    1. w/ Buzzer Regulated by Law
      1. Place a weight of 20 kg (44.0 lb) on the front passenger seat.
        NOTE:

        Place the weight on the seat cushion and allow it to come into contact with the seatback.

      2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
      3. Fasten the driver seat belt.
      4. Lift up the vehicle using a swing arm type lift.

      5. Start the engine.
      6. Check the state of the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly under the following conditions:
        1. Step 1:

          When the front passenger seat belt is not fastened, the shift lever is in any position other than P* and the parking brake is released, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinks.

        2. Step 2:

          When the front passenger seat belt is not fastened and the vehicle is driven at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinks.

          After 2 minutes, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly changes from blinking to illuminated.

        3. Step 3:

          Starting from step 1 with the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinking, when the shift lever is moved to P, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly changes from blinking to illuminated.*

        4. Step 4:

          Starting from step 1 with the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinking, when the parking brake is applied, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly changes from blinking to illuminated.

        5. Step 5:

          Starting from step 1 with the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinking, the front passenger seat belt not fastened and the weight on the front passenger seat, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly turns off when the weight is removed from the front passenger seat.

        6. Step 6:

          Starting from step 1 with the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinking, when the front passenger seat belt is fastened, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly turns off.

    2. w/o Buzzer Regulated by Law
      1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
      2. Place a weight of 20 kg (44.0 lb) on the front passenger seat.
        NOTE:

        Place the weight on the seat cushion and do not allow it to come into contact with the seatback.

      3. Fasten the driver seat belt.
      4. When the front passenger seat belt is not fastened, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinks.
      5. Lift up the vehicle using a swing arm type lift.

      6. Start the engine.
      7. When the front passenger seat is occupied, the front passenger seat belt is not fastened and the vehicle is driven at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinks at an interval of 1.2 seconds for 30 seconds.

        After that, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinks at an interval of 0.4 seconds.

      8. When the front passenger seat belt is fastened, check that the seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly turns off.
  3. INSPECT REAR SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT (w/ Rear Seat Belt Warning) 
    1. Check the state of the rear seat belt warning light on the telltale light assembly:

      *1 Rear Seat Belt Warning Light (Telltale Light Assembly)
      *a LH
      *b Center
      *c RH
      1. Turn the ignition switch off.
      2. Open and then close either rear door.
      3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
      4. When a rear seat belt is not fastened, check that the rear seat belt warning light on the telltale light assembly is illuminated.
      5. After 34 seconds, check that the rear seat belt warning light on the telltale light assembly turns off.
      6. When one of the rear seat belts is unfastened from being fastened, check that the rear seat belt warning light on the telltale light assembly illuminates.
  4. INSPECT SEAT BELT WARNING BUZZER 

    HINT: 

    The seat belt warning buzzer can be customized. Make sure that this function is ON.

    Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS [08/2017 - ] 

    1. for Front Seat Belt Warning Buzzer (w/ Buzzer Regulated by Law)
      1. Place a weight of 20 kg (44.0 lb) on the front passenger seat.
        NOTE:

        Place the weight on the seat cushion and allow it to come into contact with the seatback.

      2. After turning the ignition switch to ON, if the driver seat belt is not fastened within 1.8 seconds, check that the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds at 1.2 second intervals for 6 seconds.
      3. Lift up the vehicle using a swing arm type lift.

      4. Start the engine.
      5. When the driver or front passenger seat belt is not fastened and the vehicle is driven at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more, check that the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds once.
      6. When 24 seconds have passed after the buzzer sounded, check that the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds at an interval of 1.2 seconds for 6 seconds.
      7. After the seat belt warning buzzer has been sounding for 6 seconds at an interval of 1.2 seconds, check that the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds at an interval of 0.4 seconds for 90 seconds.
      8. Check that the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly stops 96 seconds after it started sounding at an interval of 1.2 seconds.
      9. After the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly stops, the ignition switch is turned off and the engine is restarted, check that the buzzer sounds once again and then sounds according to the appropriate pattern when the vehicle is driven at 20 km/h (12 mph) or more with the driver or front passenger seat belt not fastened.
      10. After the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly stops and the vehicle is driven at 20 km/h (12 mph) or more with the driver or front passenger seat belt fastened, when the driver or front passenger seat belt is unfastened, check that the buzzer sounds once again and then sounds according to the appropriate pattern.
      11. After the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly stops sounding, select reverse gear and then select 1st gear. Drive the vehicle at 20 km/h (12 mph) or more with the driver or front passenger seat belt not fastened, and check that the buzzer sounds once again and then sounds according to the appropriate pattern.*1
      12. After the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly stops sounding, move the shift to R, and then move it to D. Drive the vehicle at 20 km/h (12 mph) or more with the driver or front passenger seat belt not fastened, and check that the buzzer sounds once again and then sounds according to the appropriate pattern.*2

    2. for Front Seat Belt Warning Buzzer (w/o Buzzer Regulated by Law)
      1. Place a weight of 20 kg (44.0 lb) on the front passenger seat.
        NOTE:

        Place the weight on the seat cushion and do not allow it to come into contact with the seatback.

      2. Lift up the vehicle using a swing arm type lift.

      3. Start the engine.
      4. Check that the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds at an interval of 1.2 seconds for 30 seconds.
      5. After the seat belt warning buzzer has been sounding for 30 seconds at an interval of 1.2 seconds, check that the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds at an interval of 0.4 seconds for 90 seconds.
      6. Check that the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly stops 2 minutes after it started sounding at an interval of 1.2 seconds.
      7. After the buzzer has stopped, turn the ignition switch off and then start the engine again. Drive the vehicle at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more while the driver or front passenger seat belt is not fastened, and check that the buzzer sounds again.
      8. After the buzzer has stopped, fasten the driver or front passenger seat belt. Drive the vehicle at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more and unfasten the driver or front passenger seat belt, and check that the buzzer sounds again.
      9. After the buzzer has stopped, stop the vehicle, move the shift lever to R and then to 1st gear. Drive the vehicle at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more, and check that the buzzer sounds again.*1
      10. After the buzzer has stopped, stop the vehicle, move the shift lever to R, and then move it to D. Drive the vehicle at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more, and check that the buzzer sounds again.*2

    3. for Rear Seat Belt Warning Buzzer (w/ Rear Seat Belt Warning)
      1. Open and close either rear door.
      2. Lift the vehicle using a swing arm type lift.

      3. Fasten the driver seat belt.
      4. Start the engine.
      5. When the rear seat belt is not fastened and the vehicle is driven at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more, check that the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds at an interval of 1.2 seconds for 6 seconds.
      6. After the seat belt warning buzzer has been sounding for 6 seconds at an interval of 1.2 seconds, check that the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds at an interval of 0.4 seconds for 24 seconds.
      7. Check that the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly stops 30 seconds after it started sounding at an interval of 1.2 seconds.
      8. After the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly stops, turn the ignition switch off, open and close either rear door and then start the engine. Fasten and unfasten a rear seat belt then drive the vehicle at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more and check that the buzzer sounds in the same pattern again.
      9. After the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly stops, fasten a rear seat belt, drive the vehicle at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more, unfasten the rear seat belt and check that the buzzer sounds in the same pattern again.
      10. After the buzzer has stopped, stop the vehicle, move the shift lever to R and then to D. Drive the vehicle at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more, and check that the buzzer sounds again.
