DTC P0721: Output Speed Sensor Circuit Range / Performance [06/2016 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and push the Techstream main switch ON.
    3. Read the DTCs using the Techstream (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [06/2016 - ] ).

      Result

      Display (DTC output) Proceed to
      DTC is not output A
      DTC is output B
      CAN communication system DTC is output C

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART 

    (Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [06/2016 - ] )

    Result: 

    GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 

    (Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [06/2016 - 03/2017] Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [03/2017 - ] )

    Result:

  2. INSPECT TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (SP2) INSTALLATION 
    1. Check the transmission revolution sensor (SP2) installation.

      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Correct
      *b Incorrect
      *c No clearance

      OK

      The installation bolt is tightened properly and there is no clearance between the sensor and transmission case.

    Result: 

    NG 

    SECURELY INSTALL TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (SP2) OR REPLACE TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (SP2) 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. INSPECT TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (SP2) 
    1. Disconnect the L3 transmission revolution sensor (SP2) connector.
    2. Perform inspection of the transmission revolution sensor (SP2) (Refer to INSPECTION [06/2016 - ] ).
    3. Connect the L3 transmission revolution sensor (SP2) connector.

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (SP2) 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [06/2016 - ] )

    Result: 

    OK

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (SP2) - TCM) 
    1. Disconnect the A19 TCM connector.
    2. Disconnect the L3 transmission revolution sensor (SP2) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      L3-1 (SP2-) - A19-7 (SP2-) Always Below 1 Ω
      L3-2 (SP2+) - A19-18 (SP2+) Always Below 1 Ω
      A19-7 (SP2-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A19-18 (SP2+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Connect the A19 TCM connector.
    5. Connect the L3 transmission revolution sensor (SP2) connector.

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  5. REPLACE TCM 
    1. Replace the TCM (Refer to REMOVAL [06/2016 - ] ).

    Result: 

    NEXT 

    PERFORM THE RESET MEMORY
