Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor: Inspection: Procedure

  1. INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR 
    1. Resistance Inspection
      1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

        Refer to REMOVAL

      2. Drain the engine coolant.

        Refer to REPLACEMENT

      3. Remove the ECT sensor No. 1.

        Refer to REMOVAL 

      4. Place the ECT sensor No. 1 in water with a thermometer, and heat the water gradually.

        *a Resistance (Kilohms)
        *b ECT (°C (°F))
      5. Measure the resistance between ECT sensor No. 1 terminals 1 and 2.

        If not as specified, replace the ECT sensor No. 1.

        Refer to REMOVAL 

        SPECIFICATION (REFERENCE)

        20 (68) Approx. 2.45
        80 (176) Approx. 0.318
  2. INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR NO. 2 
    1. Resistance Inspection
      1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

        Refer to REMOVAL

      2. Drain the engine coolant.

        Refer to REPLACEMENT

      3. Remove the ECT sensor No. 2.

        Refer to REMOVAL 

      4. Place the ECT sensor No. 2 in water with a thermometer, and heat the water gradually.

      5. Measure the resistance between ECT sensor No. 2 terminals 1 and 2.

        If not as specified, replace the ECT sensor No. 2.

        Refer to REMOVAL
