  1. IGNITION SWITCH EXPRESSIONS
    1. The type of ignition switch used on this model differs depending on the specifications of the vehicle. The expressions listed in the table below are used in this section.
Expression Ignition Switch (Position) Engine Switch (Condition)
Ignition switch off LOCK Off (Lock)
Ignition switch ACC ACC On (ACC)
Ignition switch ON ON On (IG)
      Engine start START On (Start)
  2. TROUBLESHOOTING PRECAUTION
    NOTE:
    • Since the Dynamic Torque Control AWD system may be influenced by a malfunction in other systems, be sure to check for DTCs in the other systems.
    • When removing and installing the 4WD ECU assembly and each sensor, be sure to check that the normal display is output in test mode inspection and in DTC output inspection after installing all the parts.
    • When the 4WD ECU assembly is replaced with a normal one from another vehicle, it is necessary to perform calibration.

      Refer to CALIBRATION [12/2012 - ]

      HINT:

When replacing the 4WD ECU assembly with a new one, it is not necessary to perform calibration.

    • If a DTC of the CAN communication line is output, repair the malfunction in the communication line and troubleshoot the Dynamic Torque Control AWD system.
    • Since the CAN communication line has its own length and route, it cannot be repaired temporarily with a bypass wire, etc.
  3. AWD CONTROL PREVENTION MODE PROCEDURES FOR INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE
    NOTE:

In the case of using a speedometer tester, brake tester, or chassis dynamometer and so on, there is some possibility of a speed differential between the front and rear wheels. Therefore, before performing the test, make sure to enter AWD control prevention mode.

    1. Entering and Canceling AWD Control Prevention Mode (When Using Techstream)

      HINT:

      • The operation of the dynamic torque control AWD system can be prohibited by entering AWD control prevention mode.
      • If "VSC/TR(A)C/4WD Control Prevention Mode" is selected, the operation of the vehicle stability control system and the dynamic torque control AWD system is prohibited.
      1. Entering AWD control prevention mode
        WARNING:

When using a drum tester while in AWD control prevention mode, secure the vehicle with a lock chain for safety.

        NOTE:
        • AWD control prevention mode is canceled when the ignition switch is turned off. Therefore, when continuing the inspection after the ignition switch has been turned off during inspection, it is necessary to re-enter AWD control prevention mode.
        • Do not drive the vehicle while in AWD control prevention mode.
        1. With the ignition switch off, connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
        2. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and enter the following menus: Four Wheel Drive / Utility / 4WD Control Prevention Mode or VSC/TR(A)C/4WD Control Prevention Mode.
        3. Following the display on the Techstream screen, enter "4WD Control Prevention Mode" or "VSC/TR(A)C/4WD Control Prevention Mode".

          HINT:

Check that the AWD prohibition message is displayed in the combination meter assembly (AWD control prevention mode is operating).

Chassis > Four Wheel Drive > Utility

        Tester Display
        4WD Control Prevention Mode

Chassis > Four Wheel Drive > Utility

        Tester Display
        VSC/TR(A)C/4WD Control Prevention Mode
      2. Canceling AWD Control Prevention Mode
        1. Turn the ignition switch off, wait for 60 seconds or more, and cancel "4WD Control Prevention Mode" or "VSC/TR(A)C/4WD Control Prevention Mode".
          NOTE:

Turn the ignition switch off after 60 seconds or more have elapsed since turning the ignition switch to ON. If the ignition switch is turned off within 60 seconds, AWD control prevention mode resumes when the ignition switch is turned to ON again.

          HINT:

Check that the AWD prohibition message is no longer displayed in the combination meter assembly (AWD control prevention mode is canceled).

    2. Entering and Canceling AWD Control Prevention Mode (When Using Manual Operation)

      HINT:

When using manual operation, the operation of the vehicle stability control system and the dynamic torque control AWD system is prohibited.

      1. Entering AWD control prevention mode
        WARNING:

When using a drum tester while in AWD control prevention mode, secure the vehicle with a lock chain for safety.

        HINT:

        • AWD control prevention mode is canceled when the ignition switch is turned off. When continuing the inspection after the ignition switch has been turned off during inspection, re-enter AWD control prevention mode.
        • Do not drive the vehicle while in AWD control prevention mode.
        • Complete the input using the brake pedal and parking brake within 30 seconds of turning the ignition switch to ON.
        • If entering AWD control prevention mode cannot be confirmed, carry out the procedure again from step 1 after turning the ignition switch off.
        • Fully depress or release the brake pedal when switching the brake pedal between ON and OFF so that the stop light switch changes between ON and OFF respectively.
        • Apply or release the parking brake when switching the parking brake between ON and OFF so that the parking brake light in the combination meter assembly comes on or goes off respectively.
        1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (with the engine stopped).
