Removal [06/2016 - 03/2017]: Procedure

  1. PRECAUTION 

    (Refer to PRECAUTION [06/2016 - ] )

  2. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  3. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  4. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  5. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [06/2016 - ] )

  6. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL LH 
    1. Using a moulding remover, disengage the claw and 4 clips to remove the instrument side panel LH.

  7. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  8. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  9. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/ Large Ornament Panel) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4

  10. REMOVE CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/o Large Ornament Panel) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  11. REMOVE METER HOOD SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  12. REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL METER ORNAMENT 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 14

  13. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Remove the 2 screws.

    2. Disengage the 6 claws to remove the lower steering column cover.
  14. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the upper steering column cover.

  15. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect each connector from the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.
    2. Using pliers, loosen the clamp.
    3. With the clamp loosened, use a screwdriver to disengage the claw, and remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.

      NOTE:
      • Do not replace the spiral cable sub-assembly with the battery connected and turn the ignition switch to ON.
      • Do not rotate the spiral cable sub-assembly with the battery connected and turn the ignition switch to ON.
      • Ensure that the steering wheel is installed and aligned straight when inspecting the steering sensor.
  16. REMOVE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and the steering column assembly.

    2. Remove the bolt to separate the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering column assembly.
    3. Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly.

    4. Remove the bolt to separate the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly.
    5. Disengage the 4 claws to remove the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the exterior of the vehicle cabin.

  17. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the 2 connectors from the power steering ECU assembly.

      1. As shown in the illustration, pull out the lock of the lock lever and turn the lock lever to disconnect the connector.

        *a Pull out the lock
        *b Turn the lock lever
    2. Disengage the clamp.
    3. Disconnect each connector to disengage the wire harness clamps from the steering column assembly.
    4. Remove the bolt and 2 nuts to remove the steering column assembly.

      HINT: 

      When pulling the bolts out, lifting the motor section of the steering column assembly and tilting the steering column assembly will make it easier to remove the bolts.
