DTC Check / Clear [11/2015 - 07/2020]

NOTE:

When the diagnosis system is changed from normal mode to check mode or vice versa, all DTCs and freeze frame data recorded in normal mode are cleared. Before changing modes, always check and make a note of DTCs and freeze frame data.

HINT: 

  1. CHECK DTC 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

    5. Check the DTC(s) and freeze frame data, and then write them down.

      HINT: 

      Techstream Display Description
      Test Failed Shows the malfunction judgment results during the current trip.
      Pending Shows the malfunction judgment results up to now. (Indicates the possibility of a malfunction when no DTC is confirmed.)
      Confirmed Shows the DTCs confirmed up to now. (The number of current trips differs for each DTC.)
    6. Check the details of the DTC(s).

      Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [11/2015 - 08/2016] , or refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2016 - 11/2017] , or refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [11/2017 - 12/2018] , or refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [12/2018 - 08/2019] , or refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2019 - 07/2020]

  2. CLEAR DTC (Pending and Confirmed DTC) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    5. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

  3. CHECK TIME STAMP 

    HINT: 

    By checking Time Stamp, the time and order in which DTCs were stored in an ECU can be checked.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Health Check.
    4. Perform the following steps when the data setting screen is displayed.
    5. Select the systems for which to perform Health Check and check for time stamp data.

      Selectable items: 

      • Powertrain
      • Chassis
      • Body
      • Store All Data
    6. Select "Yes" when "Do you want to store time stamp data?" is displayed.

      HINT: 

      If "Yes" is not selected, time stamp data will not be stored.

    7. After Health Check has completed, select "Time Stamp Data" to display the Time Stamp screen.
    8. Select the desired system from the drop-down list on the bottom of the Time Stamp screen.
    9. Check the order and time which DTCs were stored for the selected system.
  4. CLEAR DTC (Pending and Confirmed DTC without using Techstream) 
    1. Perform either of the following operations:
      NOTE:

      After turning power switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal notices before proceeding with work.

      Refer to PRECAUTION [11/2015 - 11/2017] , or refer to PRECAUTION [11/2017 - 12/2018] , or refer to PRECAUTION [12/2018 - 08/2019] , or refer to PRECAUTION [08/2019 - ]

      1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal for more than 1 minute.
      2. Remove the EFI-MAIN and ETCS fuses from the No. 1 engine room relay block and No. 1 junction block assembly located inside the engine compartment for more than 1 minute.
  5. CLEAR PERMANENT DTC 

    HINT: 

    Even if the following procedure is not performed, permanent DTCs are cleared by obtaining a normal judgment during 3 consecutive driving cycles.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      HINT: 

      If "PERMANENT" in the top right of the screen displays "YES", permanent DTCs are stored.

    5. Change the tab from "Enhanced" to "Generic".
    6. Check if permanent DTCs are stored.

      HINT: 

      If permanent DTCs are not output, it is not necessary to continue this procedure.

    7. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

    8. Perform the respective confirmation driving patterns in order to obtain a normal judgment for the output DTCs.

      HINT: 

    9. Perform the universal trip.
      WARNING:

      When performing a driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.

      1. Put the engine in Inspection Mode (Maintenance Mode).

        Refer to INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE [11/2015 - 12/2018] , or refer to INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE [12/2018 - ]

      2. Start the engine.
      3. Idle the engine for 30 seconds or more.
      4. With the engine running, drive the vehicle at 40 km/h (25 mph) or more for a total of 5 minutes or more.

        HINT: 

        • It is possible to complete the drive pattern even if the vehicle decelerates to less than 40 km/h (25 mph) during the driving cycle provided that the vehicle is driven at 40 km/h (25 mph) or more for a total of 5 minutes.
        • If the engine stops, further depress the accelerator pedal to restart the engine.
      5. Allow 10 minutes or more to elapse from the time the engine is started.
    10. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

    11. Check that the permanent DTCs have been cleared.

      HINT: 

      • The permanent DTCs are cleared when the universal trip is completed.
      • If permanent DTCs are still present after the universal trip, turn the ignition switch off and wait for a while. Then, confirm that the permanent DTCs have been cleared.
