DTC U0420-00: Invalid Data Received From Power Steering Control Module; DTC U0420-82: Invalid Data Received From Power Steering Control Module alive / sequence counter incorrect / not updated [07/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. VERIFY POWER STEERING ECU DTC 
    1. Recheck for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ]

      Chassis > Electronic-Controlled Power Steering > Trouble Codes 

    2. Are any DTCs present?

      Result

      Proceed to
      Yes
      No

    Result: 

    Yes

    Result: 

    No

  2. VERIFY DTC TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED 
    1. Clear the DTC.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ]

      Body Electrical > SCBS > Clear DTCs 

    2. Recheck for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ]

      Body Electrical > SCBS > Trouble Codes 

    3. Is the same DTC present?

      Result

      Proceed to
      Yes
      No

    Result: 

    Yes

  3. VERIFY NO DTC IS PRESENT 
    1. Are any DTCs present?

      Result

      Proceed to
      Yes
      No

    Result: 

    No 

    DTC TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED. 

    Result: 

    Yes 

    GO TO APPLICABLE DTC INSPECTION.. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [07/2015 - 08/2019]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2019 - ] 

  4. PERFORM THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES: 
    1. Verify that the steering angle sensor is equipped, and its wiring harness connects with engine stop and start ECU.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    2. Using the Techstream, select the PID item "Steering Wheel Estimated Absolute Angle" for power steering ECU.
    3. Verify the monitor value with steering wheel position 0° (vehicle wheels straight-ahead).
      1. If monitor value is +-20° or less, replace the steering column, then go to the next step.

        Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - 08/2018] , or refer to REMOVAL [08/2018 - 08/2019] , or refer to REMOVAL [08/2019 - ]

      2. If monitor value is +-20° or more, verify that the Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) warning light (amber) blacks out when vehicle is driven for approx. 5 min after the steering angle signal is reset.

        Refer to ENGINE STOP AND START ECU CONFIGURATION(USING AS-BUILT DATA) [07/2015 - ]

    4. If the malfunction recurs, replace the steering column, then go to the next step.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - 08/2018] , or refer to REMOVAL [08/2018 - 08/2019] , or refer to REMOVAL [08/2019 - ]

  5. GO TO APPLICABLE DTC INSPECTION. 
    1. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [07/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2019 - ]
    2. DTC troubleshooting completed, then go to the next step.
