DTC P0133-00: O2 Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 1) [07/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. PURPOSE: IDENTIFY TRIGGER DTC FOR FREEZE FRAME DATA (MODE 02) 
    1. Is the DTC P013300 on FREEZE FRAME DATA (Mode 02)?

      No

    Result: 

    No 

    GO TO THE TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURE FOR DTC ON FREEZE FRAME DATA (MODE 02). 

    1. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [07/2015 - 08/2018] Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2018 - 08/2019] Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2019 - ]

  2. PURPOSE: VERIFY IF DIAGNOSTIC RESULT IS AFFECTED BY DTC OCCURRING FROM A/F SENSOR UNIT 
    1. Switch the ignition off, then ON (engine off).
    2. Perform the Pending Trouble Code Access Procedure and DTC Reading Procedure.

      Refer to ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [07/2015 - ]

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

    3. Is the PENDING CODE/DTC P013100, P013200, P013400, P223700, P224300 or P225100 also present?

  3. PURPOSE: VERIFY A/F SENSOR 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine and idle it.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor (bank 1, sensor 1).

      Refer to ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [07/2015 - ]

      Powertrain > Engine > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor (bank 1, sensor 1)
    5. Is the Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor (bank 1, sensor 1) PID value normal?

      Refer to INSPECTION [07/2015 - 08/2018] Refer to INSPECTION [08/2018 - ]

  4. PURPOSE: VERIFY A/F SENSOR HEATER 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine and idle it.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor Heater (bank 1, sensor 1).

      Refer to ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [07/2015 - ]

      Powertrain > Engine > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor Heater (bank 1, sensor 1)
      Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor Heater (bank 1, sensor 1)
    5. Is the Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor Heater (bank 1, sensor 1) PID value normal?

      Refer to INSPECTION [07/2015 - 08/2018] Refer to INSPECTION [08/2018 - ]

  5. PURPOSE: VERIFY DTC 
    1. Switch the ignition off, then ON (engine off).
    2. Retrieve the ECM DTCs using the Techstream.

      Refer to ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [07/2015 - ]

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

    3. Are any DTCs present?

  6. PURPOSE: INSPECT A/F SENSOR CONNECTOR CONDITION 
    1. Switch the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the A/F sensor connector.
    3. Inspect for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled-out pins, corrosion).
    4. Is there any malfunction?

  7. PURPOSE: INSPECT INSTALLATION OF A/F SENSOR 
    1. Inspect installation of A/F sensor.
    2. Is the A/F sensor installed securely?

  8. PURPOSE: VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION RELATED TO EMISSION SYSTEM AFFECTS A/F SENSOR SIGNAL 
    1. Inspect for exhaust gas leakage from the exhaust system. (between A/F sensor and HO2S)
    2. Is there any malfunction?

  9. PURPOSE: DETERMINE INTEGRITY OF A/F SENSOR 
    1. Reconnect all disconnected connectors.
    2. Inspect the A/F sensor.

  10. PURPOSE: DETERMINE INTEGRITY OF A/F SENSOR HEATER 
    1. Inspect the A/F sensor heater.

  11. PURPOSE: VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR COMPLETION 
    1. Always reconnect all disconnected connectors.
    2. Clear the DTC from the ECM memory using the Techstream.

      Refer to CLEARING DTC [07/2015 - ]

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

    3. Implement the repeatability verification procedure.
    4. Perform the Pending Trouble Code Access Procedure.

      Refer to ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [07/2015 - ]

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

    5. Is the PENDING CODE for this DTC present?

  12. REPEAT THE INSPECTION FROM STEP 6. 
    1. If the malfunction recurs, replace the ECM.
