System Description [03/2017 - ]

  1. PRECAUTION FOR REGISTRATION 
    1. If replacing any of the following parts, refer to the registration procedure (Refer to REGISTRATION [03/2017 - 12/2017] Refer to REGISTRATION [12/2017 - ] ).
      NOTE:
      • When the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) is replaced, it is also necessary to replace all registered electrical key transmitter sub-assemblies.
      • Any electrical key transmitter sub-assemblies for which registration has been performed cannot be reused.
      1. ID code box (immobiliser code ECU)*
      2. Certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly)
      3. ECM
      4. Steering lock ECU (steering lock actuator assembly)
      5. Electrical key transmitter sub-assembly

  2. SYSTEM FUNCTION 

    The electric controls of the push-button start function are described below:

    Function Outline
    Ignition function When the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is brought into the vehicle and verified, this function changes the power source or starts the engine when the engine switch and brake pedal*1 or clutch pedal*2 are operated.
    Battery saving function for vehicle When the vehicle is not used for a long time, this function extends the interval between each periodic transmission of the request signal, or stops transmission of the request signal to save vehicle battery power.
    • When 5 days elapse without a response from the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly, periodic transmission stops.
    • When 14 days elapse without a response from the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly, the lock/unlock sensor of all door outside handle assemblies except the driver side door is disabled.

    When the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is left in the detection area for 10 minutes or more, the smart key system automatically deactivates the exterior detection area the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is in.
    Battery saving function for electrical key transmitter sub-assembly If a switch on the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is depressed and held, this function stops transmission of the signal after approximately 20 seconds to save electrical key transmitter sub-assembly battery power.
    Entry cancel function Cancels the smart key system when certain operations are performed.
    Immobiliser function Allows the engine to be started only using registered electrical key transmitter sub-assemblies to prevent an unauthorized engine start.
    Automatic power off function for Automatic Transmission 
    • When the shift lever is in P and the power source mode is on (ACC) (the engine has not been started and the vehicle is not moving), this function automatically turns off the power after approximately 20 minutes elapse.
    • When the shift lever is in P and the power source mode is on (IG) (the engine has not been started and the vehicle is not moving), this function automatically turns off the power after approximately 60 minutes elapse.

    for Manual Transmission 
    • With the engine switch on (ACC) (the engine has not been started and the vehicle is not moving), this function automatically turns off the power after approximately 20 minutes elapse.
    • With the engine switch on (IG) (the engine has not been started and the vehicle is not moving), this function automatically turns off the power after approximately 60 minutes elapse.

  3. DETECTION AREA 
    NOTE:
    • Due to the vehicle body shape, the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly may not operate in certain locations.
    • Even if the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is in the vehicle exterior detection area, the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly may not be properly detected if the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is near a window, a door handle or the center of the rear bumper.
    • Even if the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is in the vehicle interior key detection area, the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly may not be properly detected if it is on the instrument panel, accessory box of the instrument panel, package tray trim panel, or in/near the front cup holder, in the glove box or on the floor.
    • Depending on the way the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is held, the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly may not operate properly.
    • The detection area may reduce in size or the key may not be properly detected under the conditions below:
      • The electrical key transmitter sub-assembly battery is depleted.
      • There are TV towers, electric power plants, broadcasting stations, gas stations or other facilities that produce strong electric waves nearby.
      • Even if the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is in the vehicle interior key detection area, the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly may not be properly detected if it is on the instrument panel, accessory box of the instrument panel, package tray trim panel, or in/near the front cup holder, in the glove box or on the floor.
      • The electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is covered by or in contact with a metal object.
      • Electric wave-type keyless entry systems are being operated nearby.
      • The electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is placed near high-voltage equipment or equipment that emits electrical noise.
      • When the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is placed near electric devices, such as a charger.
    1. The request signal sent from the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) is transmitted from each electrical key antenna (outside) to form the detection area. The detection area formed by each electrical key antenna (outside) has a detection range of 0.7 to 1 m (2.30 to 3.28 ft.) from the door handles and rear bumper (electrical key antenna (outside luggage).
    2. When the vehicle is parked (the power is off and the doors are locked*), the detection area of each electrical key antenna (outside) is formed by emitting a periodic request signal every 0.25 seconds in order to detect the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly. Also, when the doors are locked and a lock sensor is touched, a request signal is emitted, the detection area outside the vehicle is formed and the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is detected.

      HINT: 

      *: The smart key system controls each door individually. After a door is locked with the door lock switch or wireless remote control function, a detection area is formed at the locked door even if all the doors are not locked.

    3. The detection area of the electrical key antenna (outside luggage) is formed when the back door opener switch assembly is pressed.
    4. The detection area inside the vehicle is formed and the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is detected when any of the following conditions are met: 1) Any door is opened and closed, 2) the brake pedal*1 or clutch pedal*2 is depressed, 3) the engine switch is operated, 4) the conditions required for various warnings are met, or 5) an entry door lock operation is performed.

    5. The detection area inside the vehicle when starting the engine can be customized through the customize function (Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS [03/2017 - ] ).
