Removal [08/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  2. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2015 - ] ).

  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    1. Disable the AUTO TILT AWAY function by changing the customize parameter (Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS [08/2015 - 08/2017] , or refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS [08/2017 - ] ).
      NOTE:

      Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the AUTO TILT AWAY function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing the operation.

      HINT: 

      Performing the above operation causes the AUTO TILT AWAY function to be disabled when the engine switch is turned off.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column assembly.
    3. Turn the engine switch off and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2015 - 08/2017] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2017 - ] ).

  4. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL 
  5. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] )

  6. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Remove the 3 screws.

    2. While pressing the push area shown in the illustration to detach the 4 claws, slightly lower steering column cover.

      NOTE:

      Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch.

  7. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Detach the 4 clips and 2 claws remove the meter hood spacer.

    2. Detach the claw and 2 guide pin remove the upper steering column cover from the steering column assembly.
  8. REMOVE COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUBASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the combination switch with spiral cable subassembly.
    2. Detach the 3 claws and remove the combination switch assembly with spiral cable subassembly from the steering column assembly.

  9. REMOVE LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] )

  10. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS PROTECTOR AND WIRE HARNESS 
    1. Detach the 2 claws and 2 harness clamps, disconnect the wire harness protector and wire harness.

  11. REMOVE NO. 3 AIR DUCT SUBASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  12. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY 
    1. Put matchmarks on the steering actuator assembly and the steering column assembly.

    2. Remove the bolt.
    3. Remove the 4 nuts and steering column assembly.

  13. REMOVE STEERING ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2 )

  14. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN HOLE COVER SUBASSEMBLY 
    1. Hold the clamp with needle nose pliers, then insert a screwdriver and turn it in the direction shown in the illustration to remove the clamp of the steering column hole cover subassembly.

    2. Remove the 4 bolts and nut with the steering column hole cover subassembly from the vehicle.

  15. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT 
    1. Loosen the bolt and remove the No. 2 intermediate shaft from the power steering link assembly.

      NOTE:

      It is possible to install the intermediate shaft to the same position it was removed from without placing matchmarks due to the dust cover part labeled A. Therefore, do not remove the dust cover from the steering link.

      HINT: 

      If the dust cover is removed/installed or replaced, place matchmarks on the dust cover and steering link.
