DTC P17A8-11: 4WD/AWD Transfer Case Shift Motor Control Circuit Short to Ground; DTC P17A8-12: 4WD/AWD Transfer Case Shift Motor Control Circuit Short to Battery [02/2024 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER SUPPLY - 4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU) 

    Pre-procedure1

    1. Disconnect the A35 4 wheel drive control ECU connector.

      Procedure1

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A35-6 (HM1) - Body ground Ignition switch off Below 1.5 V
      A35-6 (HM1) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1.5 V
      A35-7 (HM2) - Body ground Ignition switch off Below 1.5 V
      A35-7 (HM2) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1.5 V
      A35-1 (TM1) - Body ground Ignition switch off Below 1.5 V
      A35-1 (TM1) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1.5 V
      A35-2 (TM2) - Body ground Ignition switch off Below 1.5 V
      A35-2 (TM2) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1.5 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

      Post-procedure1

    3. Connect the A35 4 wheel drive control ECU connector.

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND) 

    Pre-procedure1

    1. Disconnect the A35 4 wheel drive control ECU connector.

      Procedure1

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A35-6 (HM1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A35-7 (HM2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A35-1 (TM1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A35-2 (TM2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

      Post-procedure1

    3. Connect the A35 4 wheel drive control ECU connector.

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE 4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU 

    Refer to REMOVAL [02/2024 - ]

    Result: 

    NG

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND) 

    Pre-procedure1

    1. Disconnect the A35 4 wheel drive control ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the C129 high-low shift motor (transfer shift actuator assembly) connector.
    3. Disconnect the C131 center differential lock shift actuator (transfer shift actuator assembly) connector.

      Procedure1

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A35-6 (HM1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A35-7 (HM2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A35-1 (TM1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A35-2 (TM2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

      Post-procedure1

    5. Connect the C131 center differential lock shift actuator (transfer shift actuator assembly) connector.
    6. Connect the C129 high-low shift motor (transfer shift actuator assembly) connector.
    7. Connect the A35 4 wheel drive control ECU connector.

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE TRANSFER SHIFT ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to DISASSEMBLY [02/2024 - ]

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
