Removal [11/2021 - ]: Procedure

  1. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:
    • Refer to "PRECAUTION" before handling the airbag system components.

      Refer to PRECAUTION [11/2021 - ]

    • Do not allow harness and connectors to interfere or get tangled up with other parts.
  2. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

  3. ADJUST STEERING WHEEL POSITION 
    1. Adjust the tilt position of the steering column to the neutral position and the telescopic position to the longest position.
      NOTE:

      Place the tilt lever in the lock position after the steering column is adjusted.

  4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE AUXILIARY BATTERY TERMINAL 
    WARNING:

    Wait at least 60 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

  5. REMOVE LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [11/2021 - ]

  6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [11/2021 - ] 

  7. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER

  8. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY

      1. Disconnect the connector.
      2. Using pliers, loosen the clamp.
      3. With the clamp loosened, release the claw using a flat tip screwdriver wrapped with protective tape, and remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.
        NOTE:

        Do not pay off forcibly. Otherwise, the claws may be damaged.

        HINT: 

        Remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly together with the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.

  9. SEPARATE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

      *a Matchmark - -
      1. Place an matchmarks between the steering column assembly and NO. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.
      2. Remove the bolt, and disconnect the upper side of the NO. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.
  10. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY 
    NOTE:

    Never loosen the tilt lever when the steering column assembly is not secured to the vehicle.

      *a Connector - -
      1. Remove all the connectors and harness clamps from the steering column assembly.
        NOTE:

        Do not disconnect the torque sensor connector (*a).

      2. Remove the bolts and nuts, and remove the steering column assembly.
  11. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER 
    HINT: 
    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the NO. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly is necessary.

  12. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER 
    HINT: 
    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the NO. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly is necessary.

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  13. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    HINT: 
    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the NO. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly is necessary.

      1. Place an matchmarks between the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly and NO. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.
      2. Remove the bolt, and disconnect the lower side of the NO. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.
      3. Disengage the dust seal claws from the vehicle exterior.
      4. Remove the NO. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly from the vehicle interior.
