Checking Control Module Versions
NOTE:
The following description applies only to Scan Tool VAG 1551.
- All fuses must be OK according to wiring diagram. Voltage supply must be OK (at least 11.5 V). Scan Tool VAG 1551 or VAG 1552 connected. See CONNECTING SCAN TOOL (VAG 1551) .
- Switch on ignition, with engine off. Switch on printer with the PRINT button (indicator lamp in button lights up). Press button 1 to select operating mode 1 "Rapid data transfer".
- Press button "1" and "9" to input "Gateway" address word 19.
- Press "Q" button to confirm input.
- Indicated on the top line of the display will be the part number (for example, 6N0909901), system designation (Gateway K, CAN 001), and software level. The Data Bus On Board Diagnostic Interface in instrument cluster is referred to in the OBD program as "Gateway." The bottom line of the display will be the coding (dependent on the control modules connected to the CAN Bus network) and workshop number (for example, WSC 00000).
- Press right arrow button. After the HELP button is pressed, a list of the possible functions is printed out.
- This list indicates function capability of VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) only, and does not necessarily reflect function capability of vehicle systems equipped with OBD. For "Gateway" address word 19, do not attempt to select functions other than those listed. These include:
- 01 - Check Control Module Versions
- 02 - Check DTC Memory
- 05 - Erase DTC Memory
- 06 - End Output
- 07 - Code Control Module
- 08 - Read Measuring Value Block
NOTE: Press "HELP" button to print out a complete list of available functions. This list indicates function capability of VAG 1551 scan tool only, and does not necessarily reflect function capability of vehicle systems equipped with OBD. For "Gateway" address 19, do not attempt to select functions other than those listed above. - After function is completed and forwarded with right arrow button, Vag 1551 scan tool returns to "Select functions" screen.
