Steering Column, Removing And Installing: Installing: Notes
New replacement steering columns are secured with transportation protection - 6 -.
This transport protection - 6 - must be removed after installing the steering column in the vehicle.
The shear head bolt - 10 - and the Pin - 11 - must be installed on new steering columns, which have been supplied as a replacement part.
- Tighten shear head bolt - 10 - until head shears off.
- Install steering column with preassembled steering lock housing to cross member.
- Install hex bolts - 5 -
.
When a steering column from manufacturer Presta is installed, the bolts must be secured with locking fluid D 000 600.
Identifying steering column, see IDENTIFYING STEERING COLUMNS
- Install hex bolt - 12 - .
- Install nut - 13 - and tighten to 10 N.m (7.3 ft. lb).
- Now tighten bolts - 5 - to 25 N.m (18.4 ft. lb).
- Remove transportation securing device - 6 - .
- Install universal joint/shaft on steering pinion
- Tighten bolt - 8 - to 30 N.m (22 ft. lb).
