Cold Start Device

NOTE:
The cold start device can only be tested on a test bench together with the injection pump, but a simple check can be made of its operation.
- Cold start malfunction usually is indicated by hard starting of a cold engine, failure of engine to start below 14°F (-10°C), or blue-white exhaust smoke. Check idle speed with engine cold and at normal operating temperature.
- With cold engine, below 70°F (20°C), engine should idle at approximately 950 RPM. With engine at normal operating temperature, idle speed should be approximately 700-800 RPM.
- The cold start lever should clear lever on injection pump. If idle speeds do not vary as specified, cold start device is defective.
