Description & Operation: Introduction
Transmission is a 4-speed fully synchronized unit with all gears in constant mesh except reverse gear. Gears on the mainshaft are carried by bronze or needle bearings. Input shaft and mainshaft rotate on ball bearings. Countershaft rotates on roller bearings. In Neutral position, the mainshaft gears rotate freely. An overdrive unit is bolted to the rear of the transmission and can only be engaged in 4th gear. Engagement of gears is accomplished by means of a synchronizer sleeve working together with a synchronizer ring. The synchronizer sleeve moves sideways on synchronizer hub splines.
