Steering Column: Installation
- Install steering shaft joint on steering gear and tighten nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table at the end of this article. Install lock clip. See Fig 1 . Place silicone grease on mount and install lower boot. Install locking ring around boot.
- Ensure steering shaft splines are clean. Liberally apply silicone grease on steering shaft splines and steering column mount. Install steering column mount and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table at the end of this article. Install steering shaft on lower joint and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table at the end of this article. Install locking clip.
- Guide steering column into mount. Ensure mount locking ring does not come out of position. Center steering column in relation to instrument panel. Install washers and bend back (locking) plate. Install nuts and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table at the end of this article. Press wiring cable harness into position under steering column.
- Install ignition switch connector holder and connector. Install ignition lock connector. Install ignition lock. Turn key to position "I". Press down lock lug with a drift. Press lock into sleeve. Ensure lock lug is correctly positioned in splines. Install panel above pedals. Install switches and slip ring. See Fig 2 .
- Install steering column covers. Install steering wheel and air bag module. See STEERING WHEEL & AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
