All values listed below are between the terminal in column 1 and terminal #15 (power ground), unless otherwise indicated in brackets.

NOTE:

Connect the breakout box and check the ground terminals before taking readings.

U = DC voltage in volts (V) UAC = AC voltage in volts (V)
Ubat = battery voltage f = frequency in Hertz (Hz)
Ulow = voltage approximately 0 V % duty = duty cycle (pulse ratio) as a percentage (%)
t = time in milliseconds (ms)
Connector Transmission control module (TCM) terminals #1- #42

Breakout box terminal  Control module terminal  Signal type  Ignition on  Other
#1 #1 Power supply Ubat
#2 #2 Control signal, line pressure solenoid SLT f=300Hz Frequency is constant, independent of driving conditions. The signal duty cycle is modified when the line pressure is adapted
#3 #3 Control signal, lock-up solenoid SLU F = 300Hz The frequency is constant, irrespective of driving conditions. The signal duty cycle is modified when the line pressure is adapted
#4 #4 Control signal, line pressure solenoid SLS f = 300HZ The frequency is constant, irrespective of driving conditions. The signal duty cycle is modified when line pressure is adapted.
#5 #5 Control signal, shift solenoid S4 Activated: U=0-2 V below Ubat
Not activated: Ulow
The solenoid receives voltage when activated by the control module in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears
#6 #6 Control signal, shift solenoid S5 Activated: U=0-2 V below Ubat
Not activated: Ulow
The solenoid is supplied with voltage when it is activated by the control module when
shifting between 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. And when back-up gear is selected
.
#7 #7 Signal, gear-shift position sensor A Gear selector position P, R, 4, 3: U=0-0.5 V
Other positions: U=0-2 V below Ubat
The signal is grounded in positions P, R, 4, and 3
#8 #8 Signal, gear-shift position sensor C Gear selector positions D, 4, 3 and L: U=0-0.5 V
Other positions: U=0-2 V below Ubat
The signal is grounded in positions D, 4, 3 and L
#9 #9 Power supply, speed sensor (SP1) U≈1 V <Ubat -
#10 #10 Signal, vehicle speed sensor (SP1) Tooth against sensor: 14 mA
Cover against sensor: 7 mA
The sensor generates a pulsed signal (quadratic wave) with fixed pulse ratio when the pulse wheel rotates. Frequency increases with speed
#11 #11 Power supply, engine speed (RPM) sensor (SP2) U≈1 V <Ubat -
#12 #12 Signal, engine speed (RPM) sensor (SP2) Tooth against sensor: 14 mA
Cover against sensor: 7 mA
The sensor generates a pulsed signal (quadratic wave) with fixed pulse ratio when the pulse wheel rotates. Frequency increases with speed
#13 #13 Diagnostic lead
Volvo on-board diagnostic (OBD) system
U=0-2 V below Ubat
Other values apply if the fault-tracing instrument is connected to the data link connector (DLC)
