BACKGROUND

This Service Bulletin describes how to reduce the risk of false alarms caused by torrential rain.

False alarm, reduction 

  1. Preparatory work

    Open the sun roof completely (see Fig 1 ).

  2. Removing the lens, interior lighting (see Fig 2 )

    Fold down the cover (1).

    Press the clips (2) outwards. Remove the lens.

  3. Removing the cover (see Fig 3 )

    Open the clips (2, 3). Remove the cover (1).

  4. Removing the molding (see Fig 4 )

    Remove the molding around the front edge and short sides of the sun roof.

    Pull the short sides of the trim towards the center so that the two front corners loosen.

    Leave the trim hanging at the rear edge.

  5. Removing the trim, continued

    Roll up two balls of paper or other clean material.

    Stuff the balls between the headlining and the roof as illustrated (see Fig 5 ).

    NOTE: Do not damage or crease the headlining

  6. Removing the mass movement sensor (see Fig 6 )

    Remove the black installation tape. Discard the installation tape.

    Carefully remove the mass movement sensor and remove the connector.

    Remove the old adhesive residue. Roll it with your fingers.

  7. Installing the felt tape

    Install 2 pieces of felt tape on the interior lighting. Bend over the edge as illustrated (see Fig 7 ).

  8. Installing the mass movement sensor, preparatory work

    Fill in the two markings on the headlining using a pencil so that they are easier to see (see Fig 8 ).

    NOTE: Do not use a ball point or permanent marker pen. These can discolor the headlining.

  9. Installing the mass movement sensor (see Fig 9 )

    Place double-sided adhesive tape on the underside of the mass movement sensor. Position a 9 mm drill bit as a spacer along the edge. Install the mass movement sensor exactly according to the markings on the headlining. Press into place for approximately 15 seconds.

    Connect the connector.

    NOTE: Note the bulge on the left hand side of the mass movement sensor and the position of the drill. It is important that the position of the mass movement sensor is correct.

    Remove the drill bit.

  10. Installing the foil tape (see Fig 10 )

    Mark the center of the foil tape and the mass movement sensor. Remove the backing paper at one corner of the foil tape.

    Position the foil tape behind the mass movement sensor, as close as possible without the tape being underneath the mass movement sensor. Press the foil tape into position and remove the backing paper as the foil is pushed into place.

    Hint:  Do not remove all the backing paper at the same time. The foil tape becomes very difficult to handle.

  11. Removing excess foil tape (see Fig 11 )

    Cut off excess foil tape. Discard the excess foil tape.

  12. Installing the trim strip (see Fig 12 )

    Remove the paper balls. Reinstall the trim strip around the sunroof. Start by pressing the two front corners of the trim strip into place. Continue with the rest of the time strip.

  13. Installing the interior lighting

    Reinstall the cover (see Fig 3 ).

  14. Installing the lens (see Fig 2 )

    Install the lens. Ensure that the clips (2) snap into place.

    Install the cover (1).

    Close the sun roof.

WARRANTY STATEMENT  : Claims may be submitted under the New Car Warranty when there is a documented customer complaint, using claim type 01.
