Checking wiring and sensors
- Disconnect the cable harness between the steering wheel angle sensor module (SAS) and the steering wheel module (SWM)
- Connect the breakout box.
Check the wiring between the steering wheel angle sensor module (SAS) terminal #14 (#A38) and steering wheel module (SWM) terminal #18 (#A18). Check for an open-circuit. See Open-circuit, permanent faults . Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage. See Short-circuit to supply voltage. Permanent faults .
HINT: With the ignition on and the breakout box connected to the steering wheel module (SWM), check the supply voltage to the steering wheel angle sensor control module: Measure the voltage between terminals #?? and #??. The voltage should be 12 V.
Try replacing the steering wheel angle sensor if no faults are found in the wiring between the control module for the steering wheel angle sensor and the steering wheel angle sensor.
