A/T Gearshift Position Switch & Neutral Position Switch Test

Remove front console. See A/T GEAR POSITION SWITCH & NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. The A/T gearshift position switch and neutral position switch are located on right side of gearshift lever mechanism. See Figure . Disconnect gearshift lever position switch 12-pin and neutral position switch 2-pin connectors.
Move shift lever back and forth without pushing the button at each gear. Use DVOM to check for continuity between specified terminals in specified gear selector lever position. See Figure . If continuity is not as specified, replace switch. See A/T GEAR POSITION SWITCH & NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If there is no continuity in any position, switch may need adjusting. See A/T GEAR POSITION SWITCH & NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ADJUSTMENT .
