SITUATION

MoDiC III is a completely new diagnostic computer designed from the ground up. The MoDiC II was first distributed in 1990 and is being replaced by the MoDiC III.

Although "trying out" the MoDiC III upon receipt is very tempting, it is absolutely necessary to read the entire "Operating and Installation " book that is included with every MoDiC III. The book should be kept in a safe place for future reference. The MoDiC III is delivered with the following:

MODIC III DISTRIBUTION

During the first round of MoDiC III distribution, one MoDiC III will be sent to each BMW center. Centers will not receive a MoDiC III until the "BMW Diagnosis and Information Systems and MoDiC III use Agreement" has been signed and returned to BMW NA, attention Paul Manzer. The use agreement was sent out to all centers under separate cover. The total amount of MoDiC IIIs a center will receive is calculated per the following. One MoDiC III per center, additional MoDiC IIIs calculated by 1 MoDiC III per three technicians. DIS tester(s) will be included in the calculation of total MoDiC IIIs required.

BMW centers cannot order a MoDiC III on their own. Orders will automatically be canceled.

Per the Use Agreement "BMW center Obligations" numbers 3 and 4, a $2000.00 core charge will be automatically placed on the BMW center number until the MoDiC II station is returned. All MoDiC II stations are to be returned to the USCO New Jersey address only.

SERVICE

Service for the MoDiC III is being handled by SIEMENS. The SIEMENS hotline number is 1 800 215 1646. If SIEMENS determines that the MoDiC III in question requires service, a replacement unit will be sent to you. The defective unit should be placed in the box and promptly returned to SIEMENS. The defective unit will not be returned to you after it has been repaired. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary not to physically abuse the MoDiC III in any way. This includes, but is not limited to, using anything other than the touch pen or your finger on the screen, writing on the case etc. Misuse requiring repairs will be charged directly to the BMW center.

SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

When you receive your new MoDiC III the operating systems and basic software are already installed. Upon start-up you must set the language and input your center data. Refer to page 3-12 section 3.2.5 of your hand book for complete details. Save the MoDiC installation floppy that is included with the MoDiC. It will be required to load future operating software versions. The basis system and program CDs are the same CDs that are used with the DIS. The difference is that the MoDiC III completely loads all of the operating software programs (DIS program and TIS) directly on the hard drive.

If a new Basis system CD is received (IDC 07 02 96) follow the "Installing the DIS basis system CD-ROM" instructions in your hand book page 3-18 sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2 and 3.3.3.

PRICING

MoDiC III pricing is included in the "Center Services Cost Recovery" charge. Refer to your user agreement "Fees" section number 1-3 for complete details.
