PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS AND PRIOR TO RETAIL DELIVERY.
SUBJECT
Service Action: Program Control Units (DDE)
SITUATION
The service engine soon lamp (MIL) is illuminated erroneously.
CAUSE
DDE software error
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves E70 and E90 vehicles with the M57Y diesel engine which were produced from 11/16/2008 to 3/6/2010.
In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action completed or is affected by this Service Action, first check the B-pillar label for code number 560 . If code number 560 has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number 560 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
PROCEDURE
Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.37.1 or later.
E90 - Integration level (new): E89X-10-03-501 or higher
E70 - Integration level (new): E070-10-03-502 or higher
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to Centernet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.
Further validation testing of ISTA/P 2.37.2 revealed that programming will result in a programming failure of the RAD2+ Radio. There is a 100% failure rate.
- Programming the vehicle with ISTA/P 2.37.2 should only be performed if it is absolutely necessary!
Before performing a programming session, open a PuMA Case with the subject line "RAD2+ 0815 programming" and wait for advice.
Please refer to the DCS messages concerning RAD2 , SI B65 37 09 , and SI B09 02 09 .
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 560 . After the vehicle has been checked and/or corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-366) and:
- Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
- Punch out code number 560 (2), printed on the label; and
- Affix the label to the B -pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
