Power Seat Inoperative In One Direction
NOTE:
This procedure applies to vehicles equipped with memory systems only.
- If memory seats system check was performed, go to next step. If memory seats system check was not performed, go to MEMORY SEATS SYSTEM CHECK
under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Turn ignition off. Enter Mode 1 testing by grounding the Memory Seat Module (MSM) connector C1 diagnostic terminal No. 11 (Yellow wire) located below left seat. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
. MSM will beep once indicating Mode 1 diagnostics was entered successfully. All power seat motors are disabled during Mode 1 diagnostics. If one beep was heard from MSM, go to next step. If no beep was heard from MSM, go to step 7
.
- Operate left power seat switch to inoperative position. If MSM beeps when seat switch is pressed to inoperative position, go to step 8
. If MSM does not beep when seat switch is pressed to inoperative position, go to next step.
- Disconnect left seat switch connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between seat switch terminal pin "J" and corresponding terminal for inoperative position. See LEFT SEAT SWITCH CONNECTOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION (DEVILLE)
or LEFT SEAT SWITCH CONNECTOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION (ELDORADO)
table. Operate seat in inoperative position. If reading is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If reading is greater than 5 ohms, go to step 6
.
- Repair open in circuit corresponding with inoperative position. After repairs, go to step 11
.
- Replace left seat switch. See POWER SEATS - DEVILLE & ELDORADO article. After repairs, go to step 11
.
- Check for poor ground to MSM. If ground is okay, replace MSM. See MEMORY SEAT MODULE
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step 11
.
- Disconnect suspect power seat motor connector. See Figure
. Connect a fused jumper between battery voltage and either terminal of suspect seat motor. Connect a jumper between ground and other terminal of suspect seat motor. If motor operates, go to next step. If motor does not operate, go to step 10
.
- Repair open or short to ground in appropriate circuit corresponding with inoperative seat switch position. After repairs, go to step 11
.
- Replace suspect inoperative power seat motor. See POWER SEATS - DEVILLE & ELDORADO article. After repairs, go to next step.
- Recheck operation of power seats. If non-memory power seat component or system is thought to be at fault, go to POWER SEATS - DEVILLE & ELDORADO article.
