Shift Select Cable: Installation
- Install the shift select cable (3) and the grommet through the bulkhead. Secure the cable with 2 bolts. Tighten the bulkhead grommet bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the shift select cable to the manual shift lever. Secure the cable with the one nut. Install the shift select cable into the bracket. Secure the cable with the clip. See Fig 3.
- With your hand, adjust the adjustment nut until the nut contacts the joint of the manual shift select cable. Tighten the adjustment nut with an open-end wrench until the nut is firmly against the joint of the manual shift select cable. See Figure.
- Route the shift select cable under the carpet to the selector assembly. Fit and reposition the carpet. Install the front carpet retainers, and secure the carpet. See Fig 3.
- Apply Lithium Grease (GM P/N 1051344) to the clevis pin. Connect the shift select cable to the selector lever. See Fig 2. Secure the cable with the clevis pin and with the retainer clip.
- Install the indicator cover. Install the bulb socket to the cover. Install the console into the vehicle. Secure the console with the 6 screws. See Fig 1.
- Connect the selector lever knob to the selector lever. Secure the knob with the 2 screws.
- Inspect the shift select cable using the following procedure:
- With the ignition switch in the OFF position and with the selector lever in the PARK position, attempt to manually push the vehicle. The vehicle should not move.
- Verify that the vehicle cannot be driven in the NEUTRAL position.
- Verify that the vehicle can be driven in the DRIVE position, in the DRIVE-2 position, and in the LOW position.
- Verify that the vehicle can reverse in the REVERSE position. If vehicle does not perform as specified, adjust shift select cable. See SHIFT CONTROL CABLE under ADJUSTMENTS.
- Install the rear console into the vehicle. Install the center console into the vehicle. Install the 6 screws into the console (1-6). See Fig 1.
