Test VER-4A: Speed Control Verification

  1. If PCM has been replaced, and correct VIN and mileage have not been programmed, a DTC will be set in ABS, air bag and SKIM modules. If vehicle is equipped with Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM), secret key data must be updated to enable starting. See PROGRAMMING in appropriate ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS article.
  2. For ABS and air bag systems, enter correct VIN and mileage in PCM. Erase DTCs in ABS and air bag modules. Inspect vehicle to ensure that all engine components are connected. Reassemble and connect components as necessary.
  3. Using scan tool, erase DTCs in PCM. To ensure no other speed control problems exist, road test vehicle at a speed greater than 30 MPH. Turn speed control on. Depress and release SET switch. If speed control does not engage, repair is not complete. Check for related Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) and return to DTC TEST: CHECKING SYSTEM FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  4. Quickly depress and release RESUME/ACCEL switch. If vehicle speed does not increase by 2 MPH, repair is not complete. Check for related TSBs and return to DTC TEST: CHECKING SYSTEM FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  5. Press and hold COAST switch. Vehicle speed should decrease. If vehicle speed does not decrease, repair is not complete. Check for related TSBs and return to DTC TEST: CHECKING SYSTEM FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  6. Using caution, press and release brake pedal. If speed control does not disengage, repair is not complete. Check for related TSBs and return to DTC TEST: CHECKING SYSTEM FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  7. Bring vehicle speed to 25 MPH. Depress RESUME/ACCEL switch. If speed control does not resume to previously set speed, repair is not complete. Check for related TSBs and return to DTC TEST: CHECKING SYSTEM FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  8. Hold down SET switch. If vehicle did not decelerate, repair is not complete. Check for related TSBs and return to DTC TEST: CHECKING SYSTEM FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  9. Ensure vehicle speed is greater than 30 MPH and release SET switch. If vehicle did not adjust and set a new speed, repair is not complete. Check for related TSBs and return to DTC TEST: CHECKING SYSTEM FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  10. Depress and release CANCEL switch. If speed control did not disengage, repair is not complete. Check for related TSBs and return to DTC TEST: CHECKING SYSTEM FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  11. Bring vehicle speed to 35 MPH and engage speed control. Turn speed control ON/OFF switch to OFF position. If speed control disengages, repair is complete. If speed control did not disengage, repair is not complete. Check for related TSBs and return to DTC TEST: CHECKING SYSTEM FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
