Test 84A - OTIS Ambient Temperature Sensor
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER
section in this article. Perform TEST VER-1
VERIFICATION TEST after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
- Disconnect and remove ambient temperature sensor. Sensor is located behind front bumper, left of center. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between sensor terminals and compare with AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR SPECIFICATIONS
table. Go to next step.AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR SPECIFICATIONS
K/Ohms Ambient Temperature 29.3-36.0 32°F (0°C) 18.0-22.0 50°F (10°C) 11.4-13.6 68°F (20°C) 9.1-10.8 77°F (25°C) 7.4-8.7 86°F (30°C) 4.9-5.7 104°F (40°C) 3.3-3.8 122°F (50°C) - If resistance measurement does not correspond with the AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR SPECIFICATIONS table, replace sensor. If sensor is within specification, turn ignition off. Close all vehicle doors and ensure all lights are off. Wait one minute.
- Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of ambient temperature connector terminal No. 1 (Gray/Tan wire). If resistance is 30 ohms or greater, go to next step. If resistance is less than 30 ohms, go to TEST 84B .
- Connect jumper wire between ambient sensor connector terminal No. 1 (Gray/Tan wire) and ground. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Bone connector. BCM is located behind right kick panel. Go to next step.
- Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance at BCM Bone connector terminal No. 15 (Gray/Tan wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Gray/Tan wire.
