VTSS Test 1A - Identifying Vehicle Theft Security System Problems
NOTE:
Perform SYMPTOM ID TEST 1A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
and WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Perform TEST VER-1B - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE
after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Determine if VTSS indictor light illuminates while driving vehicle. If light illuminates, go to VTSS TEST 3A . If indicator light does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Using scan tool select BODY, then BODY COMPUTER. Scan tool performs a CCD bus test. If scan tool is blank, displays a CCD bus failure message or displays NO RESPONSE, go to VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS TESTS . If CCD bus test is okay, go to next step.
- Read body control module fault messages. See SCAN TOOL MESSAGE DIRECTORY table. If no messages are displayed, go to next step.SCAN TOOL MESSAGE DIRECTORY
Display Perform BATTERY POWER TO MODULE DISCONNECTED (1)TEST 3A DOOR OR LIFTGATE MUX CKT SHORT TO GND POWER DOOR LOCK TEST 1A FRONT DOOR OR LIFTGATE KEY CYL DISARM OR ARM SW FAILURE POWER DOOR LOCK TEST 1A FRONT DOOR LOCK OR UNLOCK SWITCH FAILURE POWER DOOR LOCK TEST 1A (1) See VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS TESTS . - Using scan tool, select THEFT ALARM, then MONITOR DISPLAY. Read VTSS status. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to VTSS TEST 2A . If VTSS mode is not DISARMED, go to VTSS TEST 1B . If display is 1 NO RESPONSE/2 NO RESPONSE, go to VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS TESTS . Go to next step.
- Ensure all doors are closed and properly aligned. Fully lower both front windows. Using scan tool, actuate horn. If horn does not sound, go to VTSS TEST 6A . If horn sounds, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, actuate headlights, parking/tail lights and VTSS indicator light. If headlights or parking/tail lights fail to flash, go to EXTERIOR LIGHT TEST 1A . If VTSS indicator light fails to flash, go to VTSS TEST 7A . Go to next step.
- Using scan tool, select THEFT ALARM, then MISCELLANEOUS. Select CHANGE MODE, then DIAGNOSTICS. VTSS should now be in diagnostic mode. Follow instructions displayed by scan tool. If TURN KEY TO ACC POSITION is not displayed, go to VTSS TEST 4A . If TURN KEY TO ACC POSITION is displayed, go to next step.
- If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE once ignition is turned to ACC position, go to VTSS TEST 5A . If scan tool displays TURN KEY TO ACC POSITION for more than 15 seconds, go to VTSS TEST 5A . If scan tool displays TURN KEY TO ACC POSITION for more than 15 seconds, go to next step.
- Remove key from ignition switch. Wait 2 seconds after performing each of the following actions. Open, then close each door, liftgate and hood. Operate power door lock switch to lock, then unlock position. Rotate key both directions in each door and liftgate lock. Horn should sound after each action. If horn does not sound, see VTSS SYMPTOM DIRECTORY table. If horn sounds, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. If horn does not sound, go to VTSS TEST 4A . Using scan tool, select THEFT ALARM, then MONITOR DISPLAY. Read VTSS status. If VTSS mode is other than DISARMED, go to VTSS TEST 1B . If display is 1 NO RESPONSE/2 NO RESPONSE, go to VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS TESTS . If display is 1 NOT OK TO ARM VTSS/2 OK TO RUN ENGINE, 20 engine start cycles must be done before system is operational.
