Instrument Cluster Test 5D - Dimmer Switch Signal Circuit
NOTE:
Perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 5A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Perform, after each repair, VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE
.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Using scan tool, read panel lamp sensor voltage. Rotate dimmer switch. If voltage remains high, go to step 6). Ensure parking lights are still on.
- Access Body Control Module (BCM) connector "A". BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Remove connector cover. Do not disconnect con connector. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, backprobe connector "A".
- Measure voltage on terminal No. 8 (Orange/Black wire) while rotating dimmer switch. If voltage varies from zero volts to more than 4 volts, replace BCM. If voltage does not vary from zero volts to more than 4 volts, go to next step.
- Disconnect headlight switch 13-pin connector. Using scan tool, read panel lamp sensor voltage. If voltage is more than 4 volts, replace headlight switch. If voltage is 4 volts or less, go to next step.
- Turn parking lights off. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance at terminal No. 12 (Orange/Black wire) on headlight switch connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, replace BCM. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Orange/Black wire for short to ground.
- Ensure parking lights are on. Rotate dimmer switch to high position. Access headlight switch connector. Do not disconnect connector. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, backprobe connector. Go to next step.
- Measure voltage on terminal No. 6 (Black wire). If voltage is one volt or less, repair open Black wire. If voltage is more than one volt, go to next step.
- Measure voltage on terminal No. 12 (Orange/Black wire). If voltage is .8 volt or less, repair open Orange/Black wire. If voltage is more than .8 volt, replace BCM.
