Power Door Lock Test 23A - Remote Keyless Entry Problem

NOTE: Perform POWER DOOR LOCK TEST 1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform, after each repair, VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE  .
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE: After repairing Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system, transmitters may have to be reprogrammed. See KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM article.
  1. Access RKE module under instrument panel cover. See Fig 1 . Turn ignition off. Disconnect RKE module connector. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage at terminal No. 3 (Pink wire) on RKE harness connector. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Pink wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance at terminal No. 5 (Gray/Black wire) on RKE module harness connector. Grounding of circuit will cause RKE system to be inoperative. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair Gray/Black wire for short to ground. If resistance is 100 ohms or greater, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance at terminal No. 4 (Black/Light Green wire) on RKE module harness connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Black/Light Green wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Ensure gear shift selector is in Park. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage at terminal No. 6 (Light Green/Red wire) on RKE module harness connector. If voltage is more than 4 volts, go to POWER DOOR LOCK TEST 23B  . If voltage is 4 volts or less, go to next step.
  5. Connect jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 6 (Light Green/Red wire) on RKE module harness connector. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector "A". BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance at terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire) on connector "A". If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Light Green/Red wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  6. Remove jumper wire. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance at terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire) on connector "A". If resistance is 4800 ohms or greater, replace BCM. If resistance is less than 4800 ohms, repair Light Green/Red wire for short to ground.
