Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Control System
- Ensure coolant temperature is more than 170°F (76°C). With transaxle in Neutral, allow engine to idle for 70 seconds. Quickly rev engine to 2000-3000 RPM. If EGR valve stem moves when revving engine, EGR control system is operating normally.
- Disconnect and plug vacuum hose from EGR valve. Connect a hand vacuum pump to EGR valve. Apply at least 6 in. Hg (20 kPa) of vacuum to EGR valve. Engine idle speed should become unstable or stall. If engine speed does not drop, check for plugged EGR passage.
