Hood Ajar Switch Missing
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. Unless instructed otherwise in test step, reconnect any disconnected connectors.
- If hood was open during Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module programming (configuration), go to next step. If hood was not open during RKE module programming, open hood and reprogram RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) MODULE under PROGRAMMING.
- Turn ignition off. Open hood. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on bottom of instrument panel, to left of brake pedal. See Figure. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select BODY, THEFT ALARM, VTSS, then INPUT/OUTPUT. Read HOOD AJAR SW status. If scan tool displays HOOD AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If scan tool does not display HOOD AJAR SW: CLOSED, leave scan tool connected and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect hood ajar switch 2-pin connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and hood ajar switch connector terminal No. 2, ground circuit (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, leave hood ajar switch connector disconnected, scan tool connected and go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Black wire.
- Disconnect RKE module connector. Using ohmmeter, check resistance of hood ajar switch sense circuit (Brown/Tan wire) between hood ajar switch connector terminal No. 1 and RKE module connector terminal No. 23. See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, leave hood ajar switch connector disconnected and go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Brown/Tan wire.
- Connect a jumper wire between ground and hood ajar switch connector terminal No. 1, hood ajar switch sense circuit (Brown/Tan wire). Using scan tool, read HOOD AJAR SW status. If scan tool displays HOOD AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace hood ajar switch. If scan tool does not display HOOD AJAR SW: CLOSED, leave hood ajar switch connector disconnected and go to next step.
- Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect RKE module connector. Ensure hood is open. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and RKE module connector terminal No. 23, hood ajar switch sense circuit (Brown/Tan wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, test is complete.
