PCI BUS Communication Failure

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Connect Diagnostic Junction Port Tester (8339) to scan tool and Black 16-pin diagnostic junction port. See Figure . Using scan tool and diagnostic junction port tester, select JUNCTION PORT TOOL, then PCI BUS MODULE SCAN. Follow instructions on scan tool and attempt to communicate with modules on PCI BUS. If there is no PCI BUS communication with any modules, go to next step. If there is no PCI BUS communication with only a specific module, perform appropriate test relating to no communication. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition off. Using DVOM, measure resistance of PCI BUS circuit between diagnostic junction port tester and Black 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 2 (Violet/Yellow wire). See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in PCI BUS circuit (Violet/Yellow wire).
  3. Using scan tool and diagnostic junction port tester, select JUNCTION PORT TOOL, then PCI BUS CONTROL MODE. Follow instructions on scan tool for each pin that is equipped with a PCI BUS circuit. If scan tool displays NO MODULES RESPONDING from any of the pins that were checked, go to next step. If scan tool does not display NO MODULES RESPONDING from any of the pins that were checked, check for short to ground or voltage in Violet/Yellow wire (PCI BUS circuit) between diagnostic junction port tester and Black 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 2. Repair as necessary.
  4. Disconnect diagnostic junction port tester from scan tool, but leave connected to diagnostic junction port. Turn ignition on. Using diagnostic junction port tester, measure voltage on PCI BUS circuit that scan tool displayed as NO MODULES RESPONDING. If reading is steadily above 7 volts, go to next step. If reading is not steadily above 7 volts, go to step  6 .
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect module on PCI BUS circuit that scan tool displayed as NO MODULES RESPONDING. Turn ignition on. If reading is steadily above 7 volts with module disconnected, repair short to voltage in PCI BUS circuit. If reading is not steadily above 7 volts with module disconnected, module is shorted to voltage. Replace appropriate module. See appropriate procedure under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  .
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Measure resistance between ground and PCI BUS circuit at diagnostic junction port tester that scan tool displayed as NO MODULES RESPONDING. If resistance is 100 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 100 ohms, go to step  8 .
  7. Disconnect module on PCI BUS circuit that scan tool displayed as NO MODULES RESPONDING. Measure resistance between ground and PCI BUS circuit at diagnostic junction port tester that scan tool displayed as NO MODULES RESPONDING. If resistance is 100 ohms or less with module disconnected, repair short to ground in appropriate PCI BUS circuit. If resistance is more than 100 ohms with module disconnected, module is shorted to ground. Replace appropriate module. See appropriate procedure under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  .
  8. Visually inspect PCI BUS circuit for any chafed, pierced, pinched or partially broken wires. Check connectors for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Repair as necessary.
