Hood Ajar Switch Missing
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform VTSS VERIFICATION TEST
under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- If hood was open during Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module configuration, go to next step. If RKE configuration was not performed with hood open, open hood and program RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE under PROGRAMMING.
- Open hood. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on bottom of instrument panel, to left of brake pedal. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select VEHICLE THEFT, VTSS then INPUT/OUTPUT. Read scan tool HOOD AJAR SW status. If scan tool displays HOOD AJAR SW: OPEN, go to next step. If scan tool displays HOOD AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Black 2-pin hood ajar switch connector. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between hood ajar switch connector terminal No. 2, ground circuit (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Black wire.
- Disconnect Black 26-pin RKE module connector, located under center of instrument panel top cover. See Figure . Using ohmmeter, check resistance of hood ajar sense circuit (Brown/Tan wire) between RKE module connector terminal No. 23 and hood ajar switch connector terminal No. 1. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair Brown/Tan wire.
- Connect RKE module. Using a jumper wire, connect hood ajar switch connector terminal No. 1, hood ajar sense circuit (Brown/Tan wire) to ground. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select VEHICLE THEFT, VTSS then INPUT/OUTPUT. Read scan tool HOOD AJAR SW status. If scan tool displays HOOD AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace hood ajar switch. If scan tool displays DR HOOD AJAR SW: OPEN, replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
