Powertrain Control Module: Removal
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Dodge Dakota and 2003 Dodge Dakota. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
USE THE DRBIII(R) SCAN TOOL TO REPRO-GRAM THE NEW POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) WITH THE VEHICLES ORIGINAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (VIN) AND THE VEHICLES ORIGINAL MILEAGE. IF THIS STEP IS NOT DONE, A DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) MAY BE SET.
The PCM is located in the engine compartment (Fig 1 ).
To avoid possible voltage spike damage to the PCM, ignition key must be off, and negative battery cable must be disconnected before unplugging PCM connectors.
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
- Remove the cover over the electrical connectors.
- Carefully unplug the three 32-way connectors (four 38-way connectors if equipped with NGC) from PCM.
- Remove the PCM mounting bolts and remove the PCM from vehicle.
