Diagnostic Test

- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read ESM DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read ESM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- INSPECT THE PRNDM DISPLAY HARNESS CONNECTORS
- Turn the Ignition Off.
- Carefully lift the Shifter Bezel from the console to expose the PRNDM Indicator harness connector in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to BEZEL, SHIFTER, REMOVAL .
- Check that the PRNDM harness connector is securely attached to the PRNDM Display.
- Check that the PRNDM harness connector is fully seated to the ESM.
Is the PRNDM harness connector securely attached to the PRNDM Display and ESM?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Correctly attach the PRNDM harness connector to The PRNDM Display.
- Perform the ESM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ESM VERIFICATION TEST .
- INSPECT THE PRNDM HARNESS CONDITION
- Visually inspect the PRNDM display harness for any damage that may indicate an open or shorted circuit within the harness.
Is there any visible damage to the PRNDM display harness?
Yes
- Replace the Electronic Shifter Module (ESM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, ELECTRONIC SHIFT (ESM), REMOVAL .
- Perform the ESM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ESM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- Visually inspect the PRNDM display harness for any damage that may indicate an open or shorted circuit within the harness.
- CHECK PRNDL DISPLAY HARNESS CONNECTION AT THE PRNDM DISPLAY
- Disconnect the PRNDM Display harness connector.
- Check the following circuits:
- F857 Sensor Supply circuit
- T298 Sensor Ground circuit
- D405 LIN Bus circuit
for corrosion, backed out, or damaged terminals. Perform a pin drag test at the terminals in the PRNDM Display harness connector
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair the connection or replace the ESM in accordance with the Service Information as necessary. Refer to MODULE, ELECTRONIC SHIFT (ESM), REMOVAL .
- Perform the ESM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ESM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the PRNDL Display in accordance with the Service information.
- Perform the ESM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ESM VERIFICATION TEST .
- If the DTC returns, replace the Electronic Shift Module (ESM) in accordance with the Service information. Refer to MODULE, ELECTRONIC SHIFT (ESM), REMOVAL .
- Perform the ESM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ESM VERIFICATION TEST .
