Test A: Quick Test
NOTE:
Start Quick Test by following instructions specified in Fig 1
.
- For the door lock switch in each door: LOCK and UNLOCK the doors several times using the switch. Check that all the doors lock/unlock properly. If all the doors lock and unlock properly, then go to next step. If there are any problems, investigate cause. See TEST C: POWER LOCKS . Repair as directed
- Ignition key to OFF with doors locked and closed. Lift either front door handle to open door. Within 25 seconds, unlock door with key, get inside car and turn ignition ON. If the interior lamps illuminated with door handle and go off when ignition is turned ON, then go to next step. If the interior lamps illuminate and do not go off when ignition is turned on, replace the remote convenience module. See REMOTE ENTRY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Repeat quick test. See Fig 1 . If the interior lamps do not illuminate, then investigate cause. See TEST B: ILLUMINATED ENTRY . Repair as directed.
- Ignition switch ON. Insert a shorting plug into RKE test connector. See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If all doors unlock and then unlock, go to next step. If there is no response from the door locks, then go to step 2 of TEST D: REMOTE ENTRY SYSTEM . Perform repairs as directed.
- Remove shorting plug from test connector. Ignition key OFF. Close all doors - the doors should be unlocked. Press the LOCK button on any transmitter that has been programmed into the module. If all doors lock; interior lamps OFF; anti-theft indicator lamp OFF when doors closed, then ON for 30 seconds after doors lock then go to next step. If there was no response from the door locks (after three attempts) then go to TEST D: REMOTE ENTRY SYSTEM . Perform repair as directed.
- Ensure the ignition switch OFF and that the RKE test connector is not shorted. Shut and lock all doors. Press the UNLOCK button on a transmitter. If the driver's door unlocks; interior lamps turn on; alarm does not sound when door is opened then go to next step. If driver's fails to unlock or interior lamps do not turn on then go to TEST D: REMOTE ENTRY SYSTEM . Perform repair as directed.
- Press the UNLOCK button on a transmitter twice (the second press must be within 5 seconds of the first) or if less than five seconds since step 8 , press the UNLOCK button on a transmitter once. If the passenger doors unlock, go to next step. If the passenger doors do not unlock, then go to TEST D: REMOTE ENTRY SYSTEM . Perform repair as directed.
- Press the (Red) PANIC button on the transmitter. If the horn sounds and parklamps and headlamps flash on and off continuously, go to next step. If there are any problems or system does not operate as specified, go to step 12 .
- If more than 3 minutes have elapsed since the last step was performed, repeat step 7 . If more than one transmitter is available, press the (Red) PANIC button on a different transmitter than was used in step 7 . If the horn and parklamps and headlamps continue to beep and flash on and off, go to next step. If the horn and parking lamps shut off, replace the remote convenience module. See REMOTE ENTRY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Repeat quick test. See Fig 1 .
- If more than 3 minutes have elapsed since the last step was performed, repeat step 7 . Push the (Red) PANIC button on the same transmitter that was used in step 7 . If the horn and parklamps and headlamps shut off, go to next step. If the horn and parklamps and headlamps do not shut off (even after three button pushes), then replace the remote convenience module. See REMOTE ENTRY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Repeat quick test. See Fig 1 .
- Press the (Red) PANIC button on any transmitter which has been programmed into the module. Ensure RKE test connector is not shorted. Turn the ignition switch ON. If the horn beeps and parklamps and headlamps flash ON and OFF, then all outputs shut off when ignition is turned ON, then go to next step. If the horn and parklamps and headlamps do not shut off when ignition is turned ON, then replace the remote convenience module. See REMOTE ENTRY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Repeat quick test. See Fig 1 .
- Ensure the ignition switch is ON and all doors and the trunk lid are closed and locked. Press the UNLOCK button on any transmitter which has been programmed into the module. If no doors unlock (even after three button pushes) then the system is functioning properly at this time. If any doors unlock, then replace the remote convenience module. See REMOTE ENTRY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Repeat quick test. See Fig 1 .
- Check voltage on Light green wire between the anti-theft module and remote entry module connector terminal No. 13 (Light Green). See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . See 1992-94 ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - FORD MOTOR CO. article. If measured voltage is 10 volts or greater, then check for open in Light Green wire. Test anti-theft system for normal operation. See 1992-94 ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - FORD MOTOR CO. article. If voltage is less than 10 volts, then go to TEST D: REMOTE ENTRY SYSTEM . Perform repair as directed.
NOTE:
Transmitter button may have to be pushed more than once in this step.
