Abs Function Test

  1. Inspect system for sufficient fluid, leaks, or damaged components. Inspect fuses and wiring. Service as necessary. Drive vehicle to verify fault exists.
  2. Apply parking brake. Shift transaxle into Park (A/T) or Neutral (M/T). Block drive wheels. Turn off all electrical loads.
  3. Turn ignition on. Observe ANTI-LOCK LIGHT. If ANTI-LOCK light stays on, go to next step. If light does not come on, inspect METER fuse and light circuit, then go to PINPOINT TEST G  . If light flashes continuously, check for short between pin TBS and ground at Data Link Connector (DLC), located near battery. If light comes on for about 1.5 seconds and then goes out, go to PINPOINT TEST F  .
  4. Start engine. Drive vehicle. If ANTI-LOCK warning light comes on, an ABS failure exists. If codes are to retrieved with Super STAR tester, go to step 5). If codes are to be retrieved with a VOM, go to step 6). If warning light does not come on, but ABS problems exist, go to PINPOINT TEST H  .
  5. Turn ignition off. Locate DLC. See Fig 1 . Connect Super STAR tester. Retrieve codes, following manufacturer's instructions.

  6. Turn ignition off. Connect jumper wire between TBS and ground terminals at DLC. Connect analog voltmeter between terminals FBS and GND terminals at DLC.
  7. Turn ignition on. If using Super STAR tester, wait 2 seconds before turning tester on. Observe ANTI-LOCK warning light. If it flashes briefly, then goes out, ABS system is okay. If it remains on, record and erase codes, then retrieve and record codes again. See RETRIEVING CODES  and ERASING CODES  . If any codes still exist, go to next step. If warning light flashes codes, retrieve and record codes, then go to next step.
  8. Erase codes. See ERASING CODES  . Repeat step 5) or 6) as appropriate. With ignition on, tap, wiggle, and move suspected sensor and wiring harness. If any code resets, see ABS CODE IDENTIFICATION  table for appropriate action. If no code sets, operation is normal. If intermittent condition cannot be duplicated, inspect all connections carefully.
