Steering System: Description
Power rack and pinion has gear and valve housings cast into a 1-piece aluminum unit. See Fig 1 . Steering gear is a hydraulic-mechanical type, which uses internal valving to direct hydraulic fluid flow and pressure. Gear contains a rotary hydraulic fluid control valve integrated into input shaft and a boost cylinder integrated with rack.
C-II power steering pump is a belt-driven, slipper-type integral pump with a fiberglass/nylon reservoir. Reservoir is attached to rear of pump housing plate. See Fig 2 . Pump body is encased within housing and reservoir.
Hoses are attached with quick disconnect fittings, located below filler neck at outboard side of reservoir. An identification tag with basic model number is attached to reservoir.
