Abs Function Test
- Inspect system for sufficient fluid, leaks, or damaged components. Inspect ABS (60-AMP), ENGINE (10-AMP), METER (15-AMP) and STOP (15-AMP) fuses and wiring. Service as necessary. Drive vehicle to verify fault exists.
- Apply parking brake. Shift the transaxle into Park (A/T) or Neutral (M/T). Block drive wheels. Turn off all electrical loads.
- Turn ignition on. Observe ANTI-LOCK light. If ANTI-LOCK light stays on, go to next step. If light does not come on, inspect METER fuse and light circuit, then go to PINPOINT TEST G - WARNING INDICATOR under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. If light flashes continuously, check for short between terminals TBS and GND at Data Link Connector (DLC), located near battery. See Fig 1
. If light comes on for about 1.5 seconds and then goes out, go to PINPOINT TEST F - GENERATOR under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
- Start engine. Drive vehicle. If ANTI-LOCK warning light comes on, an ABS failure exists. If codes are to be retrieved with Super STAR II tester, go to step 5). If codes are to be retrieved with New Generation Star (NGS) tester, go to step 6). If diagnostic codes are to be retrieved with a VOM, go to step 7). If warning light does not come on, but ABS problems exist, go to PINPOINT TEST H - HYDRAULIC SYSTEM under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
- Turn ignition off. Locate DLC. See Fig 1
. Connect Super STAR II tester. Retrieve codes following manufacturer's instructions. Go to step 8).
- Turn ignition off. Locate DLC. See Fig 1
. Connect NGS tester. Retrieve codes following manufacturer's instructions. Go to step 8).
- Turn ignition off. Connect jumper wire between TBS and GND terminals at DLC. See Fig 1
. Connect analog voltmeter between terminals FBS and GND terminals at DLC. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. If using Super STAR II tester, wait 2 seconds before turning tester on. Observe ANTI-LOCK warning light. If it flashes briefly, then goes out, ABS system is okay. If it remains on, record and erase codes, then retrieve and record codes again. See RETRIEVING CODES and ERASING CODES. If any codes still exist, go to next step.
- Repeat step 5), 6) or 7) as appropriate. With ignition on, tap, wiggle, and move suspected sensor and wiring harness. If any code resets, see ABS CODE IDENTIFICATION
table for appropriate action. If no code sets, operation is normal. If intermittent condition cannot be duplicated, inspect all connections carefully.
