Wipers Run With Switch Off

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Mercury Cougar and 1997 Ford Thunderbird. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition and wipers off. Disconnect wiper motor connector and Integrated Control Module (ICM) 8-pin connector. ICM is located at primary junction block. Measure resistance between Black/Pink wire at ICM 8-pin connector and ground. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace ICM and retest system.
  2. Measure resistance of Black/Pink wire between ICM 8-pin connector and wiper motor connector. Measure resistance of Dark Blue/Orange wire between ICM 8-pin connector and wiper motor connector. If resistance in both circuits is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms in either circuit, repair open wire(s) as required and retest system.
  3. Disconnect ICM 12-pin connector. Measure resistance between Orange wire and Brown/White wire terminals of ICM 12-pin connector. If resistance is 45,000-50,000 ohms, replace ICM. If resistance is not as specified, test wiper switch. See WIPER SWITCH TEST  . Replace switch if faulty. If switch is good, repair open in wiring. Retest system.
