Test C: Memory Mirror Inoperative From Memory Set Switch

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln Blackwood. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ensure gearshift selector is in Park and ignition is off. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester following manufacturer's instructions. Retrieve Driver's Seat Module (DSM) DTCs. Clear continuous DTCs. Perform DSM self-test. If DTCs do not exist, go to next step. If DTCs B1529, B1533 or B1537 exists, go to step  3. If DTCs B1667, B1668, B1669 and B1670 all exist, go to step  9. If DTCs B1667 or B1668 exists, go to step  10. If DTCs B1669 or B1670 exists, go to step  13. If DTC B1342 exists, replace DSM. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
  2. Using NGS tester, monitor DSM PIDs MEM1_SW, MEM2_SW and MEM_SW while depressing each memory recall switch and memory set switch. If PID values do not agree with switch positions and central junction box fuse No. 4 is okay, go to next step. If PID values agree with set switch position, go to step  9. If PID values do not agree with switch positions and central junction box fuse No. 4 (7.5-amp) fails while operating switch, go to step  7.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect memory set switch 10-pin harness connector C503. Test memory set switch. See MEMORY SET SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTS. If memory set switch is okay, go to next step. If memory set switch is defective, replace switch as necessary. See MEMORY SET SWTICH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
  4. Measure voltage between ground and memory set switch harness connector C503 terminal No. 6 (Orange/Light Green wire). See Fig 1. If more than 10 volts exists, go to next step. If 10 volts or less exists, repair open in Orange/Light Green wire between memory switch and central junction box. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Recheck system operation.
  5. Measure resistance between ground and memory set switch harness connector C503 terminal No. 9 (Black/Light Blue wire). See Fig 1. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open between memory set switch and ground. Ground point is located behind left kick panel. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  6. Disconnect harness connector C341b. DSM is located under driver's side seat. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and memory set switch harness connector C503 terminals as specified. See MEMORY SET SWITCH CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. See Fig 1. If voltage does not exist at any terminal, go to next step. If voltage exists at any terminal, repair short to power in appropriate wire between memory set switch, central security module and DSM.
  7. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and memory set switch harness connector C503 terminals as specified. See MEMORY SET SWITCH CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. See Fig 1. If resistances are more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistances are 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in appropriate wire between memory set switch, central security module and DSM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  8. Measure resistance between DSM harness connector C341b terminals and memory set switch harness connector C503 terminals as specified. See MEMORY SET SWITCH CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. See Figure and Fig 1 . If all resistances are 5 ohms or less, replace DSM. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation. If any resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire between memory set switch, central security module and DSM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Recheck system operation.

  9. Ensure gearshift selector in Park. Using NGS tester, monitor DSM PIDs DMIR_R, DMIR_UP, PMR_R and PMIR_UP. Toggle active command DR_UP to ON and OFF. Toggle DR_DOWN to ON and OFF. Toggle DR_LEFT to ON and OFF. Toggle DR_RIGHT to ON and OFF. Toggle PR_UP to ON and OFF. Toggle PR_DOWN to ON and OFF. Toggle PR_LEFT to ON and OFF. Toggle PR_RIGHT to ON and OFF. If mirror movement does not agree with PID commands and driver's side mirror is not operating properly, go to next step. If mirror movement agrees with PID commands, replace DSM. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation. If mirror movement does not agree with PID commands and passenger's mirror is not operating properly, go to step  13.
  10. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect DSM harness connector C341a. DSM is located under driver's side seat. Disconnect driver's side mirror 12-pin harness connector C520a. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and driver's side mirror harness connector C520a as specified. See DRIVER'S SIDE MIRROR CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. See Figure. If voltage does not exist at all terminals, go to next step. If voltage exists at any terminal, repair short to power in appropriate wire between driver's side mirror and DSM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Recheck system operation.
  11. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and driver's side mirror harness connector C520a as specified. See DRIVER'S SIDE MIRROR CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. See Figure. If all resistances are more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If any resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in appropriate wire between driver's side mirror and DSM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  12. Measure resistance between DSM harness connector C341a terminals and driver's side mirror harness connector C520a as specified. See DRIVER'S SIDE MIRROR CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. See Figure and Figure . If all resistances are 5 ohms or less, replace driver's side mirror. See SIDE MIRROR ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation. If any resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire between driver's side mirror and DSM.
