Section 39 (Automatic A/C-Heater Systems): Description: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln Blackwood. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The A/C-heater system is a blend-air type, consisting of a control panel, compressor and clutch, blower motor, evaporator core, condenser core, accumulator-drier and plenum assembly. System is controlled by a clutch cycling pressure switch and a A/C high pressure cut-off switch. Blower motor, located under instrument panel in plenum assembly, pulls air from air inlet and forces it into plenum assembly where it is mixed and delivered. Plenum assembly contains evaporator core, heater core, floor/defrost door, panel/defrost door and electric motor actuated temperature blend door.

This vehicles is equipped with Compressor Anti-Slugging Strategy (CASS). CASS is designed to alleviate damage to compressor in case of liquid refrigerant accumulation in compressor.

Automatic A/C-heater system is controlled through an Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) module and a series of sensors which measure ambient and interior temperatures, sunlight load, and other conditions, and automatically adjusts temperature operations to maintain a preset driver-selected temperature. See Fig 1. A/C-heater operations can be manually controlled, if needed, by choosing other control panel settings.
