Test C: Power Door Locks Inoperative Using Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter
NOTE:
In step 3, GEM Parameter Identification Data (PID) functions may not be found in normal Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester or New Generation Star (NGS) tester PID list, but may be located in function test TRANSMITTER TIC/DATA. When test is activated, appropriate results may be obtained using Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) keyfob buttons.
NOTE:
Perform all voltage and resistance tests using a Digital Volt-Ohm Meter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.
- Lock and unlock doors using driver's door lock switch. If all doors lock and unlock correctly, go to next step. If all doors do not lock and unlock correctly, perform TEST B: ALL POWER DOOR LOCKS INOPERATIVE (DTC B1396 & B1397) .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester or New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure. DLC is located under instrument panel between steering column and the radio. See Figure. Observe GEM PIDS IGN_KEY, IGN_A, IGN_S and IGN_R while cycling ignition switch through OFF, ACC, RUN, START and key out positions. If PID values agree with ignition switch positions, go to next step. If PID values do not agree with ignition switch positions, test ignition switch. See IGNITION SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS in STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - MUSTANG article.
- Remove ignition key from ignition switch. Monitor GEM FUNCTION TEST TIC/DATA while depressing lock and unlock buttons on RKE transmitter. If LAST DATA RECEIVED does not match button depressed on RKE transmitter, go to next step. If LAST DATA RECEIVED matches button depressed on RKE transmitter, replace GEM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, test system for normal operation.
- Install NEW batteries in RKE transmitter. Monitor GEM FUNCTION TEST TIC/DATA. Depress lock and unlock button on RKE transmitter. If LAST DATA RECEIVED does not match button depressed on RKE transmitter, go to next step. If LAST DATA RECEIVED matches button depressed on RKE transmitter, system is okay. Clear DTCs and repeat GEM self-test.
- Reprogram all RKE transmitter(s). See TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING. Monitor GEM FUNCTION TEST TIC/DATA while depressing lock and unlock buttons on RKE transmitter. If LAST DATA RECEIVED does not match buttons depressed on RKE transmitter, go to next step. If LAST DATA RECEIVED matches buttons depressed on RKE transmitter, system is okay. Clear DTCs and repeat GEM self-test.
- Program a NEW RKE transmitter. See TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING. Clear all DTCs and repeat GEM self-test. If problem still exists, replace GEM and reprogram RKE transmitter. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, clear DTCs, repeat self-test and check system for normal operation.
