Test Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Ford RV Cutaway, 2009 Ford Econoline, 2009 Ford E450 Super Duty, and 2009 Ford Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. AT1 PRELIMINARY DIAGNOSIS FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P2552
NOTE: If DTCs P2614 or P2617 are present, follow the DTC diagnosis for P2552.
    • Retrieve and record all engine and transmission continuous DTCs.
    • Record the freeze frame data.

Are DTCs P0148 or P2552 present?

    Yes No
For DTCs P1378 or P1379, GO to Pinpoint Test S .
For DTC P2552, GO to  AT2.
For DTC P0148, GO to  AT5.
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. For all other DTCs, REFER to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHARTS AND DESCRIPTIONS .
  2. AT2 DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P2552
NOTE: Refer to the PCM and component connector pin numbers at the beginning of this pinpoint test.
    • Possible causes:
      • FICMM line open
      • FICMM line shorted to ground
    • Ignition OFF.
    • FICM-C connector disconnected.
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.
    • Measure the voltage between:
    (+) FICM-C Connector, Harness Side (-)
    FICMM - Pin 9 Ground

Is the voltage greater than 10.5 V?

    Yes No
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. If DTC P2552 is present again, INSTALL a new FICM. REFER to the appropriate, Electronic Engine Controls. GO to  AT3.
  3. AT3 CHECK THE FICMM CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    • Ignition OFF.
    • PCM connector disconnected.
    • Measure the resistance between:
(+) PCM Connector, Harness Side (-)
    FICMM - Pin E28 Ground

Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms?

    Yes No
GO to  AT4. REPAIR the short circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  4. AT4 CHECK THE FICMM CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    • Measure the resistance between:
(+) PCM Connector, Harness Side (-) FICM-C Connector, Harness Side
    FICMM - Pin E28 FICMM - Pin 9

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

    Yes No
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. If DTC P2552 is present again, GO to  AT6. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  5. AT5 DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P0148
    • Possible causes:
      • fuel quality
      • crankshaft position (CKP) or camshaft position (CMP) signal noise
    • Retrieve and record all engine and transmission DTCs.

    Is DTC P0148 present?

    Yes No
REFER to PERFORMANCE DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES . CARRY OUT the OBD drive cycle.
REFER to DRIVE CYCLES . REFLASH the PCM. REFER to FLASH ELECTRICALLY ERASABLE PROGRAMMABLE READ ONLY MEMORY (EEPROM) . If DTC P0148 is present again, GO to  AT6.
REFER to NO DTCS PRESENT SYMPTOM CHART INDEX , if a driveability concern exists.
  6. AT6 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION
    • Disconnect all the PCM connectors.
    • Visually inspect for:
      • pushed out pins
      • corrosion
    • Connect all the PCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Carry out the PCM self-test and verify the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

    Yes No
INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to FLASH ELECTRICALLY ERASABLE PROGRAMMABLE READ ONLY MEMORY (EEPROM) , Programming the VID Block for a Replacement PCM. The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
