Transfer Case

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting .
- If equipped. Remove the skid plate bolts and the skid plate.
- If the transfer case is to be disassembled, drain the fluid from the transfer case. Refer to: Transfer Case Draining and Filling .
- Remove the rear driveshaft Refer to: Rear Driveshaft .
- Remove the Front driveshaft. Refer to: Front Driveshaft .
- Remove the transmission support insulator. Refer to: Transmission Support Insulator .
- Disconnect the vent hose from the transfer case.
- Disconnect the transfer case range sensor connector and detach the wiring harness retainer clip from the transfer case.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer clips from the transfer case.
- Disconnect the electrical connector and detach the wiring harness retainer clip from the transfer case.
- Remove and discard the transfer case-to-transmission bolts.

NOTE: An assistant will be required to remove the transfer case.
- Remove and discard the transfer case-to-transmission bolts.
- Separate the transfer case from the transmission.
- Remove the transfer case and lower it from the vehicle.
- If installing a new transfer case: Disconnect the electrical connector and electrical wiring harness retainer.
- If installing a new transfer case: Remove the retainers and wiring harness.
