Transfer Case

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting .
  2. If equipped. Remove the skid plate bolts and the skid plate.

  3. If the transfer case is to be disassembled, drain the fluid from the transfer case. Refer to: Transfer Case Draining and Filling .
  4. Remove the rear driveshaft Refer to: Rear Driveshaft .
  5. Remove the Front driveshaft. Refer to: Front Driveshaft .
  6. Remove the transmission support insulator. Refer to: Transmission Support Insulator .
  7. Disconnect the vent hose from the transfer case.

  8. Disconnect the transfer case range sensor connector and detach the wiring harness retainer clip from the transfer case.

  9. Detach the wiring harness retainer clips from the transfer case.

  10. Disconnect the electrical connector and detach the wiring harness retainer clip from the transfer case.

  11. Remove and discard the transfer case-to-transmission bolts.

  12. NOTE: An assistant will be required to remove the transfer case.

    • Remove and discard the transfer case-to-transmission bolts.

    • Separate the transfer case from the transmission.

    • Remove the transfer case and lower it from the vehicle.

  13. If installing a new transfer case: Disconnect the electrical connector and electrical wiring harness retainer.

  14. If installing a new transfer case: Remove the retainers and wiring harness.
