Pinpoint Test C: U2120:00

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2023 Lincoln Navigator. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

All Ethernet connected modules are learned through the Ethernet learning mode at key on. If all modules are not learned this DTC is set. If the Ethernet module is learned at a subsequent key on event, the DTC is cleared. REFER to: Ethernet Module Communications Network - System Operation and Component Description .

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
GWM U2120:00 Ethernet Learning Incomplete: No Sub Type Information Sets in the GWM when all Ethernet connected modules are not learned when the Ethernet learning mode is enabled.

    Possible Sources

    • Wiring, terminals, or connectors
    • Module communication concern
    • GWM
    • APIM concern
    • IPC concern
    • IPMA concern
    • TCU concern

  2. C1 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the self-test for the GWM.

Is DTC U2120:00 the only DTC present?

    Yes  GO to  C2
No  DIAGNOSE all other GWM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) first. REFER to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart  .
  3. C2 RE-CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) in the GWM.

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Wait 1 minute.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the self-test for the GWM.

    Is DTC U2120:00 still present?

    Yes  GO to  C3
    No  The repair is complete.
  4. C3 CHECK THE NETWORK COMMUNICATION

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the network test.

Do the APIM, IPC, IPMA and TCU pass the network test?

    Yes  GO to  C4
No  REFER to: Controller Area Network (CAN) Module Communications Network .
  5. C4 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the self-test for the APIM, IPC, IPMA, TCU.

Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present?

Yes  DIAGNOSE the suspect module Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) first.
    No  GO to  C5
  6. C5 CHECK FOR CORRECT GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the GWM connectors.

    • Repair:

      • Corrosion (clean module pins or install new connectors or terminals)
      • Damaged or bent pins (install new terminals or pins)
      • Pushed-out pins (install new pins as necessary)

    • Reconnect the APIM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new GWM. REFER to: Gateway Module A (GWM) .
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
