USB Device Does Not Function

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2015 Honda Crosstour, 2014 Honda Crosstour, 2013 Honda Crosstour, 2012 Honda Crosstour, and 2011 Honda Accord Crosstour. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
  • Check the vehicle battery condition first (see BATTERY TEST ).
  • Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
  • Check the USB device requirement:
    • Mass-storage class ready digital audio player with USB 2.0 port
    • More than 256 MB of RAM
    • Support MP3, WMA, and AAC (encoded with the iTunes) files, DRM files are not supported
  • Not all players and player functions work with the USB adapter. Please see the Owner's Manual for more information. Always test the customers USB device in a known-good vehicle of the same year and trim (if possible). Technologies change and are updated frequently which may result that USB devices may work in newer vehicles, but not in order vehicles of the same model.
  • If UNSUPPORTED appears on the display, the vehicle is OK, there is a software problem with the USB device.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  2. Turn on the audio unit.
  3. Press the AUX button to select USB mode.
    NOTE: Do not connect the USB device.

    Is USB NO DATA displayed in the audio-HVAC subdisplay or the audio-HVAC display? 

    YES  -Go to next step.

    NO  -Go to step  16.

  4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  5. Connect the customer's USB device to a known-good vehicle (same year/trim) that is equipped with a USB adapter, and check the USB device operation.

    Is the USB device working properly in the known-good vehicle? 

    YES  -Go to next step.

    NO  -If the display panel displays UNSUPPORTED or MEDIA ERROR, the USB device may not be unsupported or is defective. If the display panel displays USB NO MUSIC, the USB device may have no music files or wrong type music files are on the device. See the Owner's Manual for details on USB device requirements and approved file types.

  6. On the customer's vehicle, connect the customer's USB device to the USB port.
  7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  8. Turn on the audio system.
  9. Check the USB device operation in the customer's vehicle.

    Does the USB device work properly in the customer's vehicle? 

    YES  -The system is OK at this time. Inspect the connectors of the USB device, USB port and USB adapter for wear.

    NO  -Go to next step.

  10. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  11. On the customer's vehicle, remove the USB device.
  12. Disconnect USB adapter control unit connector B (5P).
  13. Check for continuity between USB adapter control unit connector B (5P) terminals and USB port 5P connector terminals according to the table.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Go to step  17.

    NO  -Go to next step.

  14. Disconnect the USB adapter 5P connector.
  15. Check for continuity between USB adapter 5P connector terminals and USB port 5P connector terminals according to the table.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Replace the USB main harness, then recheck.

    NO  -Replace the USB adapter, then recheck.

  16. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  17. Measure the voltage between body ground and USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 6.

    Is there battery voltage? 

    YES  -Go to step  19.

    NO  -Go to next step.

  18. Measure the voltage between audio unit connector E (14P) terminal No. 6 and body ground.

    Is there battery voltage? 

    YES  -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 6 and audio unit connector E (14P) terminal No. 6.

    NO  -Replace the audio unit:

  19. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  20. Measure the voltage between USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 5 and body ground.

    Is there less than 0.2V? 

    YES  -Go to next step.

    NO  -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 10 and audio connector E (14P) terminal No. 10.

  21. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  22. Disconnect these items:
    • Audio unit connector E (14P).
    • USB adapter control unit connector A (14P).
    • XM reciever connector A (14P) (with XM).
  23. Check for continuity between USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 5 and body ground.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Repair an open or a short in the wire(s) between the USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 5 and audio unit connector E (14P) terminal No. 5.

    NO  -Go to next step.

  24. Check for continuity between audio unit connector E (14P) terminal No. 5 and USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 5.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Go to next step.

    NO  -Repair an open in the wire between the audio unit and the USB adapter control unit.

  25. With navigation, disconnect the navigation display unit 28P connector.
  26. Check for continuity between audio unit connector E (14P) and body ground according to the table.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the USB adapter control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO  -Go to next step.

  27. Check for continuity between the terminals of audio unit connector E (14P) according to the table.

    Is there continuity between the terminals? 

    YES  -There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio and the USB adapter control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO  -go to next step.

  28. Check for continuity between audio unit connector E (14P) and USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) according in the table.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Substitute a known-good USB adapter control unit (see USB Adapter Control Unit Replacement  ), then reconnect all the connectors, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original USB adapter control unit (see USB Adapter Control Unit Replacement  ). If the symptom/indication is still present, replace the audio unit; with navigation (see WITH NAVIGATION SYSTEM  ), without navigation (see WITHOUT NAVIGATION SYSTEM  ).

    NO  -There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the USB adapter control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
