DTC P0842: Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Input (2017)

General Description

GHH257725Courtesy of HONDA, U.S.A., INC.

Transmission fluid pressure sensor is installed in the hydraulic pressure circuit to the over drive clutch. When hydraulic pressure is supplied to the over drive clutch, the transmission fluid pressure sensor output is above the main regulator valve output pressure. When hydraulic pressure is not supplied to the over drive clutch, the transmission fluid pressure sensor output is low pressure. The signal from transmission fluid pressure sensor is input to the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM detects the hydraulic pressure supply conditions at the over drive clutch to hydraulic circuit. If transmission fluid pressure sensor output voltage is a specified value for a set time, the PCM detects a transmission fluid pressure sensor failure and stores a DTC.

Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type, OBD Status

Execution Continuous
Sequence None
Duration 5.0 seconds or more
DTC Type One drive cycle, MIL off, shift position indicator blinks
OBD Status PASSED/FAILED/NOT COMPLETED (STILL TESTING)

Enable Conditions

Condition Minimum Maximum
12 volt battery voltage

[BATTERY VOLTAGE]

11 V -

[ ]: HDS Parameter

Malfunction Threshold

When the transmission fluid pressure sensor output voltage [Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor] is 0.25 V or less for 5.0 seconds or more while vehicle is turned to the ON mode.

Possible Cause

NOTE:  The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.

Confirmation Procedure

Operating Condition

Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait for at least 5.0 seconds.

With the HDS

None.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC

When a malfunction is detected, the shift position indicator blinks and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory. The MIL does not come on.

Conditions for clearing the DTC

The shift position indicator comes off by turning the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode. The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the 12 volt battery.
