Block and Piston Inspection: Inspection
- Crankshaft - Remove
- Piston - Remove
- Block and Piston - Inspect
1. Check the pistons for distortion or cracks. Check the pistons for distortion or cracks.
Measure the piston skirt diameter at a point 14 mm (0.55 in) from the bottom of the skirt.
Piston Skirt Diameter Standard (New): 80.98-80.99 mm (3.1882-3.1886 in) Service Limit: 80.93 mm (3.1862 in) Oversize Piston Skirt Diameter 0.25: 81.23-81.24 mm (3.1980-3.1984 in) 2. Measure the piston skirt diameter at a point 14 mm (0.55 in) from the bottom of the skirt.
3. Measure the wear and taper in direction X and Y at three levels inside each cylinder as shown. If measurements in any cylinder are beyond the oversize bore service limit, replace the engine block.
Cylinder Bore Size Standard (New): X: 81.000-81.020 mm (3.18897-3.18976 in) Y: 81.000-81.015 mm (3.18897-3.18956 in) Service Limit: 81.070 mm (3.19173 in) Oversize Bore Standard (New) + 0.25 mm (0.0098 in) Reboring limit: 0.25 mm (0.0098 in) max. Bore Taper Limit: (Difference between first and third measurement) 0.050 mm (0.00197 in) 4. Hone any cored or scratched cylinder bores if needed.
5. Check the top of the engine block for warpage. Measure along the edges and across the center as shown.
Engine Block Warpage Standard (New): 0.07 mm (0.002 in) max. 6. Calculate the difference between the cylinder bore diameter and the piston diameter. If the clearance is near, or exceeds the service limit, inspect the piston and the cylinder bore for excessive wear.
Piston-to-Cylinder Bore Clearance Standard (New): 0.010-0.035 mm (0.00039-0.00138 in) Service Limit: 0.05 mm (0.0020 in) - All Removed Parts - Install
1. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
